Stars of Science Welcomes Newborn to the Family

Doha, Qatar-Tuesday 5 November 2019 [ AETOS Wire ]

In a season of many firsts, Stars of Science welcomed a new face into their midst as Season 11 finalist Nuha Abu Yousef delivered a baby boy – while participating in Qatar Foundation’s (QF) premier innovation TV program. The Jordanian doctor’s accomplishment shatters stereotypes and demonstrates that women can pursue both a career in science, and a family.

Nuha says she invests just as much effort to her innovation journey as she does when raising her young family, something she believes is possible for all Arab women.

“I’m proud to represent female innovators and working mothers who continue to do amazing things every day,” she notes. “To all Arab women watching this show, my advice is that if I can do it, you can do it. Don’t be afraid to dream, because Arab women have so much to offer in science and business.”

The new mother-of-two added that she is grateful for all the support she received from both her fellow contestants on the show, and QF. She says that giving birth at Sidra Medicine, a top-tier women and children’s hospital, allowed her and her newborn to receive the best possible care.

“Designed to promote healing and provide outstanding services and research, Sidra Medicine acts as a beacon of learning and is a part of QF’s commitment to contribute to the advancement of innovative healthcare,” said Dr. Michel Makhlouf, Act. Chair of Women’s Services, Sidra Medicine. “We are pleased that Nuha chose Sidra Medicine to have her baby and we are honored to have played such a vital role in Stars of Science history.”

Stars of Science is just one of the many QF initiatives that empower and encourage Arab women to take on careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and solve challenges in their communities. The organization also values and safeguards the health and well-being of women throughout the region with the establishment of institutions like Sidra Medicine.

The public’s say will make all the difference in the upcoming final episode as voters, along with the jury, decide the winner of Stars of Science Season 11. Online voting is now open on www.starsofscience.com and ends on Wednesday November 6th at 2PM QAT/ 11 AM GMT.

About Stars of Science

As the premier innovation show in the Arab world, Stars of Science – the edutainment TV initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF) – empowers Arab innovators to develop technological solutions for their communities, benefitting people’s health and lifestyles, and helping to preserve the environment.

Over a nine-week process, the contestants demonstrate the effectiveness of their solutions in a shared innovation space, competing against time with the support of a team of experienced engineers and product developers. An expert panel of jurors assess and eliminate innovators and their projects every week across several prototyping and testing rounds, until only four finalists remain to compete for a share of $600,000 in seed funding. Jury deliberation and online voting from the public determine the rankings.
