During the celebration held at the Police Officers Club, the EWPA presented the honorees with the Ideal Mother Award - an award that aims to further encourage the recipients to continuously exert such efforts in caring for their families and in taking care of their responsibilities both at home and work.

Major Amina Al Baloushi, Chairperson of the Emirates Women Police Association, said: “the Emirati woman is a role model for her ability to maintain the traditions and customs of the UAE all while she efficiently implements the duties and tasks that have been assigned to her.” She additionally spoke of the police leadership and for their consistent support and care provided for the EWPA in all activities and initiatives.

“Additional initiatives that have been previously introduced by the EWPA and supported by the police leaderships include: the Distinguished Military Family Award, the Ideal Mother Award, and the Distinguished Female Employee with Disabilities Award. All such initiatives aim to encourage the Emirati woman and to inspire her to put forth her creativity in an effort to participate in the construction of the country,” she said.

During the ceremony, the EWPA renewed its commitment and loyalty to the UAE and to the higher leadership; and vowed to remain a fortress and protect the achievements of the country while elevating the levels of performance in order to further promote the civilized image and positive reputation that the UAE embodies in all international forums.

The EWPA expressed the joy of its members for Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Chairwoman of Motherhood, Childhood Supreme Council, for being named the ‘Mother of Arabs’; as the title comes as the culmination of the values of philanthropy and charity work that extend beyond all boundaries and are not limited by restrictions.

Major Al Baloushi added: “The influential and prominent role that Her Highness plays in the promotion of  child welfare and motherhood is one that we will never forget. She has enabled the women of the UAE and of the Arabic world to participate in human development and to extend a helping hand to the world’s destitute and distressed peoples. We will not forget, and will steadfastly bear witness to the distinctive status that Her Highness holds in the hearts of citizens of the UAE and in the hearts of entire Arab world.”

Al Baloushi spoke of excellence and the role of women working in the Ministry of Interior, and said: “Women endure professional and humanitarian responsibilities as a mother, as an educator, and as a wife. She cares for her children and for their upbringing; she satisfies their needs and follows-up with all the minute details that life entails. She is capable of fulfilling her role at home without neglecting her career nor her professional duties.”

“This ability and roles of the woman, is what inspired us to begin observing the Ideal Mothers that work within the Ministry. We learned that their performance was a source of pride for them, and as such, these women performed exceptionally well in familial and societal obligations and perfectly embodied her role,” she said.

Major Al Baloushi emphasized that the EWPA continuously strive to develop its performance and structure in order to achieve the best goals in serving the members of the EWPA. Smart Print - The evolution of the modern digital office

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, March 29th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

DuGone are those days when we wanted to print a document from our smartphone, but had to dismiss the idea because it seemed far too unrealistic. Thanks to the concept of mobile printing, employees can now print anything from anywhere, on the go, making them more productive.

Did you know…?

Only one out of four SMEs in the GCC has a facility to print from a smart device.

However, according to a recent survey carried out by Canon Middle East among 1,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) throughout the GCC, only one out of four businesses has a facility to print from a smart device.

Mobile printing empowers business owners, managers and employees to print on the go. With the help of cloud printing, it connects all web connected electronic devices to mobile printers that can access the cloud and/or the web. Simply put, mobile printing allows anyone to print by way of the Internet no matter where they are. This ability holds significant value as the world of business is moving towards mobile solutions.

According to experts at Canon, employees are keen to explore the concept. However, the conventional method of clicking that print button from the desktop and lack of awareness about the actual advantages of mobile printing is hindering people to warm up to the idea.

Also from among the organizational challenges are: How do you manage enterprise printing from many different types of mobile platforms, manage users, track both users and mobile devices, and flexibly address diverse mobile and cloud printing requirements? At the same time, how do you reduce printing costs while improving enterprise-printing efficiency, and ensuring information and document security?

To address this, Canon offers a number of mobile print solutions that help deliver simple and secure ways to print and scan from mobile devices, while allowing more secure printing from almost anywhere using a cloud service.

Did you know…?

Using The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application, users can print e-mails, email attachments, as well as images from their photo album, directly from their mobile device to a Canon imageRUNNER printer.

The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application is designed to meet the growing demands of on-the-go professionals, who need to keep pace with their fast-changing work environment, and provides them with a streamlined mobile print and scan solution. The solution revolutionises how businesses operate in the region by reducing their work loads, ensuring better coordination and saving and meeting demands on time.

“For businesses in the region that are always burdened with work demands and time-strapped, the app can be a revolutionary change helping them expedite their process and meet demands in timely manner. There is a clear opportunity for companies in the region to make simple, cost-effective IT changes that will have a dramatic impact on their business while also reduce costs and improving workforce efficiency,” said Hendrik Verbrugghe, Marketing Director, Canon Middle East.

With the mobile application, users can print e-mails, email attachments, PDF, TXT, JPG, and TIFF files, as well as photos and images from your photo album, directly from your mobile device to a Canon imageRUNNER or imageRUNNER ADVANCE system. The application allows users to scan hard-copy documents from Canon imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs to their mobile devices. Users can save and manage Canon imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs on their mobile devices while also e-mail files and images from their mobile device (i.e., existing files and images or those scanned via Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application).

Type 2 Diabetes: CHMP Recommends Empagliflozin/Metformin Hydrochloride for Approval in the European Union

INGELHEIM, Germany & INDIANAPOLIS, US. - Monday, March 30th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Positive opinion for a new single-pill combination therapy for adults with type 2 diabetes
Empagliflozin when added to metformin HCl lowers blood glucose, body weight and blood pressure
Side effects identified with empagliflozin plus metformin HCl were in line with the known safety profile of the individual compounds empagliflozin and metformin

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For media outside the US, the UK and Canada only

Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) today announced they have received a positive opinion from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), recommending approval of a single-pill combination therapy with empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride (HCl) for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). If approved, the new therapy will be marketed under the name SYNJARDY® in Europe.

Empagliflozin/metformin HCl combines within a single tablet the sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, empagliflozin (the active ingredient in Jardiance® tablets, already approved in the European Union1) and metformin HCl, which is commonly prescribed for the treatment of T2D. If approved, this will be the second single-pill combination therapy BI and Lilly will offer in Europe through their diabetes alliance.

The CHMP has recommended approval of the single-pill combination therapy for use alongside diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with T2D when they are:

Inadequately controlled with metformin alone or in combination with other blood glucose-lowering drugs
Already being treated with the combination of empagliflozin and metformin as separate tablets

About the Phase III Clinical Trials2

The positive opinion is based on the submission of robust clinical data from seven Phase III clinical trials that enrolled over 4,500 patients with T2D. These studies investigated the efficacy and safety data of empagliflozin plus metformin either alone or in combination with other blood glucose-lowering drugs (pioglitazone, sulphonylurea, DPP-4 inhibitors and insulin).

The results showed that treatment with empagliflozin (10mg and 25mg) when added to metformin, with or without other standard blood glucose-lowering drugs, led to statistically significant reductions in blood glucose, body weight and a clinically relevant reduction in blood pressure.

The most common side effect reported by patients in the clinical trials was hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) in combination with insulin and/or sulphonylurea. In general, the adverse event profile of empagliflozin plus metformin HCl was in line with the known safety profile of the individual compounds empagliflozin and metformin.

The common side effects experienced with empagliflozin are urinary tract and genital yeast infections, increased urination and itching. The common side effects experienced with metformin are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and taste disturbance.

About empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride (HCl)2

Empagliflozin/metformin HCl is not intended to be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Subject to approval, empagliflozin/metformin HCl is expected to be available in the following twice-daily doses in Europe:

5mg empagliflozin plus 850mg or 1000mg metformin HCl
12.5mg empagliflozin plus 850mg or 1000mg metformin HCl

Saif bin Zayed Inaugurates Customer Service Q-System at the Ministry of Interior

Called for additional efforts in customer service

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 25th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, officially inaugurated the service delivery follow-up system (Q-System) at the Ministry of Interior. The new system, which includes a central operations room to electronically keep track of customer service centers and staff members’ performance, is a first-of-its-kind in the world in the field of customer service, and is a valuable tool to oversee the provision of services across the various customer service centers.

His Highness toured the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department and the ICT Department, where he inaugurated the Operations Room, which is in charge of monitoring the key technical systems used at the Ministry of Interior. Sheikh Saif was accompanied in his tour by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of  Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of the Headquarters Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police; and Brigadier General Dr. Rashid Sultan Al Khodr, Vice Chairman of the Legal Council at the Ministry of Interior.

His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited the ministry’s staff members to exert additional efforts in the service of community members; to endeavor to improve the quality of services and to preserve excellence; stressing that “such practices would significantly contribute to upgrading police and security work to the highest levels,” he said.

Colonel Nasser Khadem Al Ka’bi, Head of the Customer Service Department, gave Sheikh Saif a detailed overview of the service delivery follow-up system project, which keeps track of customer visits and supervises the productivity and performance of customer service staff members. He said: “The system aims at achieving full customer satisfaction by regulating the flow of customers at service centers, to make sure they receive the required services promptly. It also allows performance measurement to ensure that customer service waiting time is no longer than 10 minutes, and that the average service processing time is less than five minutes, based on the number of customers served.”

The system is capable of determining the best customer service staff members at these centers, and rating the best service centers with respect to performance, and demand for services. It is also designed to send out smart alerts to the Ministry of Interior, highlighting the need to establish new service centers or to upgrade the capabilities of the existing centers. It is worth mentioning that the service delivery criteria were established according to the best international standards, and embody the UAE Government 2021 Vision.

Colonel Al Kaabi said that the project is in response to the directives of His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and was implemented as a first phase at 44 service centers at the Naturalization, Residency, Traffic, Licensing and Civil Defense sectors at the Ministry of Interior, and at the Comprehensive Police Stations Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.

Adding further, he stressed that the project brings added value to the Ministry of Interior by developing best practices that regulate the flow of customers to service centers and improving customer experience during their face-to-face interaction with service providers. “The system allows customers to directly provide feedback to the ministry with respect to the received services and service providers’ performance via a set of devices that are linked to the system. This would ultimately contribute to improving the work system and achieving the coveted objectives,” he concluded.   His Highness urged the people in charge of implementing the Q–System to continuously upgrade the system by introducing the best techniques and improvements, and to implement it across all customer service centers and border ports at the countrywide level.   His Highness also inspected the modern facilities at the revamped Vehicles and Drivers Licensing and ICT Departments. These facilities, which meet all of the architectural, engineering and comprehensive quality requirements, will contribute to achieving the strategic objectives of police work and providing distinguished services to the public.   Furthermore, His Highness reviewed the renovations undertaken at the visited departments’ sections and the operational framework for delivering excellent police services, in pursuance of the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy, aimed at improving the quality of services and achieving customer satisfaction.

During his tour on the Licensing Department, Brigadier Mohammed Khamis Al Khaili and Brigadier Mohamed Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, briefed His Highness on the workflow at the different sections of the department, which implement the best standards in the provision of services, consistent with the work system’s developments.

Al Somow School in Al Ain Establishes Small Traffic Awareness Village

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, March 24th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate recently established a small traffic awareness village at the Al Somow Primary School (Cycle 1) in Um Ghafa, Al Ain. The mini village is set up to help the students learn more about the rules and regulations of traffic; and falls within the framework of the field training and education programs for children which includes organizing such traffic villages and other fundamental educational methods in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The traffic awareness village includes: speed limit signs, warning boards, a simple layout of traffic routes, instructions on proper methods to board and exit buses, the proper ways to sit while inside the bus, and the proper ways of crossing streets at the designated crosswalks.

Captain Jaber Al Qasimi, Support Services Branch Manager at Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, indicated that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police seeks to enhance the level of traffic safety amongst students of all academic levels through such visits that are in cooperation and coordination with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and the Al Ain Educational Office. “Students are the most important category for us when we have targeted awareness campaigns. It is important to invest in the children in order to build a future generation of individuals who are intellectually aware of the traffic laws and regulations,” he said.

Captain Hamdan Hassan bin Thiban, Public Relations Branch Manager at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, praised the school for their role in contributing to the spread of the traffic culture amongst its students. He recognized the school’s presentations that included theatrical performances about driving vehicles, motorbikes, what to do when crossing the road, and mistakes drivers and pedestrians make alongside poem recitations about traffic signals.

Moreover, the Captain stressed the need for continuous communication and coordination between schools and traffic personnel. He urged the parents of the students to instill the principles of safety within their children by showing them how to properly enter vehicles, by not allowing underage children to sit in the front seats, and by ensuring that children are properly seated and buckled throughout the car ride in order to ensure their safety.

TP-LINK Middle East Partners with Jarir Bookstore for KSA

SMB Networking Solutions Vendor moves to cement retail presence in Saudi Arabia

DUBAI, United Arab Emirate - Wednesday, March 25th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

TP-LINK Technologies Co Ltd, a leading provider of SOHO and SMB networking products and solutions, has signed a partnership agreement with Saudi Arabia-based retailer Jarir Bookstore.

According to the maker of Wireless, ADSL, Switches, IP Cameras, Powerline Adapters, Print Servers, Media Converters and Network Adapters, the deal with Jarir Bookstore will not only strengthen TP-LINK’s presence in the KSA retail sector, but will open doors for its products to be sold in more than 30 stores that the retailer has across the Kingdom.

Lucas Jiang, Sales Manager, GCC Power Retailer and E-Retailer, TP-LINK Middle East, said the company is delighted to have partnered with Jarir Bookstore because it is known in the Saudi market for providing the best quality products and service to its customers.

Jiang said currently Jarir Bookstore has more than 30 stores across the Kingdom and has influenced consumers a lot in their lives through the wide range of IT and consumer electronics it sells through its outlets.

“TP-LINK, as a leading SOHO and SMB product brand for networking solutions is glad to work with Jarir Bookstore. We believe with a good cooperation, we both can have good profit from this alliance,” he said.

Jiang added that Jarir Bookstore now has the opportunity to resell networking products to the consumers and TP-LINK will help the retailer to develop its store in the store concept. “We are hoping, TP-LINK becomes the top selling networking brand in KSA retail stores just like we are in the UAE,” he said. “With the good quality products, excellent after-sales service and good product training to promoters, we should be able to help Jarir to develop the business in the retail segment across KSA.”  Jiang said the biggest challenge in KSA is that most chain stores don’t have enough shelf space for presenting the products. "In addition, we have done research in the local market and selected the most suitable items from our wide range of products to assure these fit in with the consumers’ desire in the market," he said.

Mark Zhao, Country Manager, Saudi Arabia, TP-LINK Middle East, said currently, the company has only entered Jarir Bookstore and is providing consumers through this partnership several models. Zhao said in other retail outlets such as eXtra, Hyper Panda, Lulu and Emax, consumers can also find a limited array of TP-LINK’s products. “We have decided to focus on developing the business in power retailers and having Jarir as one of our main power retailers bodes well for our strategy of growing presence in the KSA retail segment,” he said. “We are now working closely with Jarir and our Access Point portfolio has now been introduced in the store. “Eventually, we are hoping consumers enjoy the experience with the convenience provided by TP-LINK products in the KSA market.”
