Hologic Adds Aptima SARS-CoV-2 Assay to its Global Access Initiative in Resource-Limited Countries

 MARLBOROUGH, Mass.-Thursday 6 January 2022 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Hologic, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOLX) announces the addition of the Aptima® SARS-CoV-2 assay to its Global Access Initiative (GAI), a program designed to expand access to critical diagnostic testing in resource-limited countries.

As a global leader in diagnostics, Hologic launched the GAI at the 2018 International AIDS Conference with a breakthrough all-inclusive pricing structure with no upfront cost or capital expenditure. Qualified products included molecular assays for human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1), hepatitis B and C (HBV and HCV) and human papillomavirus (HPV), as well as the ThinPrep® Pap test for cervical cancer screening.

“Hologic remains committed to building diagnostic capacity and equitable health systems through affordable and accessible technical innovation,” said Joao Malagueira, Hologic’s vice president, EMEA Commercial. “We have a responsibility to bridge the diagnostic gap to sustainably control current and future disease outbreaks globally, and the expansion of the GAI to include our Aptima SARS-CoV-2 assay empowers countries to respond to the pandemic and control new waves of COVID-19.”

Throughout the pandemic, existing partnerships with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) assisted countries to quickly obtain SARS-CoV-2 tests at market pricing under existing procurement mechanisms. The Aptima SARS-CoV-2 assay is also available through the WHO Diagnostics Consortium, which secured critical volumes for countries with limited market access. To date, Hologic has delivered more than 700,000 tests for COVID-19 to resource-limited countries throughout the pandemic, in addition to routine supply of essential diagnostic tests for other viral infections to ensure continuity of care. Addition of the Aptima SARS-CoV-2 assay to the all-inclusive pricing structure of the GAI will enable further accessibility.

Interested customers should contact humancare@hologic.com to discuss pricing.

Livepeer Raises $20 Million With Backing From New Investors Alan Howard, Tiger Global as Web3 Infrastructure Momentum Grows

The Series B extension will accelerate the growth of Livepeer’s leading Web3 infrastructure, expand its video streaming offerings

NEW YORK -Thursday 6 January 2022 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Livepeer, the decentralized video transcoding network built on the Ethereum blockchain, has raised a $20 million Series B-1. The new investors in this round include Alan Howard, Tiger Global with participation from existing investors.

Coming five months after Livepeer’s Series B, the raise underscores Livepeer’s continued growth, says CEO Doug Petkanics:

“This rapid Series B extension is another welcome endorsement of how we are executing on our vision of becoming the world’s open video infrastructure. We’ve seen strong organic growth in demand for transcoding, as well as growing awareness of the reliability, value and efficiency of web3 infrastructure.”

Livepeer plans to use the funds to accelerate its execution towards capturing the growing opportunities in livestreaming infrastructure, an area that’s rapidly expanding due to the popularity of creator-driven streams, eSports and live shopping.

In October, Livepeer expanded its video streaming offerings with the acquisition of MistServer, the flexible content delivery technology that simplifies the complexities of video streaming. The expanded Livepeer offerings enable developers to build on a cost-effective infrastructure and scale streaming applications across entertainment, events, gaming and eCommerce.

The MistServer acquisition aligns with Livepeer’s R&D work in AI-based smart video, peer-to-peer content delivery, and AI-enhanced content moderation, song detection and video fingerprinting. These expanded features will make the Livepeer platform even more powerful for developers, who benefit from the breadth of offerings on Livepeer’s roadmap into 2022 and beyond.

In July, Livepeer closed its $20M Series B. DCG led the round with participation from previous investor Northzone, as well as Coinbase Ventures, CoinFund, Mike Dudas’ 6th Man Ventures and Warburg Serres. Livepeer has raised a total of $48 million to date and now has 32 employees.

ABOUT LIVEPEER

Founded in 2017 by Doug Petkanics and Eric Tang, Livepeer is the decentralized video streaming network built on the Ethereum blockchain. Targeting the $70 billion video streaming market, Livepeer enables livestreaming innovators to bring their ideas to market affordably - and to scale them without exorbitant usage fees.

Livepeer’s network already features over 70,000 GPUs, which is enough aggregated power to encode all of the video streaming through Twitch, YouTube and Facebook combined. To date, Livepeer has streamed tens of millions of minutes, passing a key milestone: a record 2.3 million minutes streamed in a single week, a six-fold increase from the start of 2021.

CE-Ventures leads Pre-Series B Round of revolutionary Ayurvedic platform NirogStreet

 DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.-Wednesday 5 January 2022 [ AETOS Wire ]

Ayurveda market is projected to reach US$ 9.5 billion by 2024

Funds to support NirogStreet to become the global technology brand in Ayurveda Healthcare

The rising threat of the Covid-19 Omicron variant has once again prompted countries in the Middle East and globally to focus on preventive healthcare, with a key emphasis on the need to mainstream Ayurveda. Public healthcare experts are of the opinion that holistic medicine is the best way to ensure universal health coverage and prevent the spread of newly emerging diseases across the globe.

With CE-Ventures, the corporate venture capital platform of Crescent Enterprises, and Japan-based ICMG Partners taking the lead, US$ 4 million has been raised in the Pre-Series B Round for tech platform NirogStreet. The funds will be used to innovate service and product offerings for Ayurvedic doctors and to scale up and strengthen operations.

Tushar Singhvi, Deputy CEO and Head of Investments at Crescent Enterprises, commented: "We are excited to embark on this journey with NirogStreet. The company has demonstrated the immense value and opportunity within the Ayurvedic market, which is projected to reach US$ 9.5 billion by 2024, as well as the limitless possibilities that tech-enabled solutions can offer. I believe that by pooling our experience and talents together, we will make a powerful team. CE-Ventures looks forward to a fruitful partnership; one that will champion the growth of NirogStreet both within the core market in India and outwards into the MENA region.”

NirogStreet, India’s first and one of the world’s fastest growing technology-led Ayurvedic doctor platforms, offers a seamless service to more than 50,000 doctors on its peer-to-peer learning, electronic health record and B2B e-commerce platform. With US$ 4 million in new funding led by CE-Ventures, the company aims to boost its presence in India and make a mark by bridging the gap between Ayurvedic doctors, patients and quality medicines on a tech-enabled and trustworthy platform. The company eyes expansion into the MENA region leveraging the region’s fast growth that is driven by a high level of digital connectivity and a large and young tech-savvy population.

Ram N Kumar, Founder and CEO of NirogStreet said: “The world has started admiring Ayurveda as their first call for preventive healthcare. We are confident that our continuous efforts in mainstreaming Ayurveda have started conversations, rebuilt perceptions, and offered reassurance that this most effective and ancient medicine is a gift from India to the world.”

He added: “We are preparing ourselves to become the world’s fastest growing healthcare company. With such visionary investors on board, we are rapidly moving towards our goal of transforming the global health care landscape.”

The digitization of Ayurvedic healthcare has become the need of the hour. The global Ayurvedic fraternity is finding NirogStreet extremely valuable to seamlessly connect with their patients and gain easy access to high quality medicines along with a high-level exposure to evidence-based knowledge.

CE-Ventures targets startups that offer synergies with Crescent Enterprises’ operations across supply chain management tech, medical tech, enterprise software as a service (SaaS), and niche consumer emerging tech. It has invested to date AED 580 million across 43 start-ups and venture capital funds in the MENA region and globally. Earlier this year, CE-ventures announced its plans to increase its investments in start-ups to AED 1 billion ($272 million) by 2022. Some of its portfolio companies include Kitopi, the world’s leading managed cloud kitchen and the MENA’s fastest unicorn, FreshtoHome, India’s largest seafood and meat e-commerce delivery platform, and Tarabut Gateway, the MENA’s largest Open Banking platform.

E-commerce Sector to Boost Cosmetic and Skincare Market Growth

Dubai, United Arab Emirates-Wednesday 5 January 2022 [ AETOS Wire ]

Beauty and e-commerce have historically gone hand-in-hand, making it easier for customers to purchase products online without having to step foot in a store, and for both luxury and drugstore brands to increase their outreach and market to potential customers.

The global cosmetics and skincare market was valued at USD 129.23 billion in 2020, and is set to increase by USD 38 billion between 2020-2024, accelerating at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5% during this forecast period.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a lasting devastating impact on the beauty and cosmetics industry. Store closures due to strict lockdown measures globally have resulted in disastrous consequences, with sales decreasing by 60% - 70% from March to April 2020 on a global scale.

The flourishing e-commerce sector, however, is anticipated to once again boost market growth to pre-Covid levels. The pandemic shifted focus slightly away from cosmetics, with customers now looking to premium brands with a greater interest in skincare. This effect has helped premium skincare companies expand their market share and innovate, build digital appeal and prestige, and improve their credibility.

Dr Sabet Salahia CosmeSurge Jumeirah, says, “Companies have responded positively to the crisis by increasing production capacities and shifting focus to cater to immediate needs by offering hand sanitizers and cleaning agents. Research is showing that consumers now intend to spend more on skincare products, in lieu of traditional beauty and grooming products. We’re also now seeing a consumer base that is more knowledgeable than ever about skincare formulations, that is aware of ingredients and demands social and economic responsibility from the brands they purchase from.”

“Currently, there is an escalating demand for face creams, serums, sunscreens, and body lotions across the globe, as consumers learned to prioritize skincare over the various lockdowns when people were stuck at home. There are also many global ‘trends’ surrounding skincare, the most recent of which was the Korean skincare craze that pushed a lot of pre-pandemic sales. This increased demand for a flawless complexion is expected to have a positive impact on the market growth over the forecast period. “ he added.

Face creams, moisturizers, serums, and sheet masks are increasingly gaining popularity as both men and women continue to place a high premium on physical appearance and looking their best. Ease of access to knowledge online through Youtube, skincare blogs, and forums has also created awareness about easy-to-treat skin disorders, making it easier for customers to curate their own skincare routines. Eco-friendly consumers, such as those opting for animal cruelty-free, vegan, and plant-based skin care products make up a significant chunk of the skincare market.

The online distribution model has significantly re-shaped shopping habits of consumers, as this channel offers benefits such as doorstep delivery, easy payment methods, heavy discounts, and the availability of a wide range of products from anywhere in the world, on a single platform. Notable brands and distributors in the market are strategically launching e-commerce websites in large lucrative markets owing to rising internet penetration and a now largely digitalised mobile shopping consumer base. Skincare aficionados can expect to see more great skincare in the forecast period to come.
