New online tool delivers organizational health check for companies to self-assess business capability
PITTSBURGH - Wednesday, January 7th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) -- As we enter 2015 amidst the growing impact of change management, the development of necessary capabilities to meet the dynamic and unpredictable needs of the business remains a top priority for seven out of 10 senior executives, according to a report by McKinsey & Company. Organizations must understand where they stand today in order to accomplish their goals in the future. To facilitate this understanding, CMMI® Institute, which offers global benchmarks in best practices for improving business performance, today released the “Top 8 Capabilities to Strengthen your Business in 2015,” a list of the top capability areas that make up a proven framework for organizations to quickly understand how well their business is doing in the capabilities that matter most to them:
Top 8 Capabilities to Strengthen Your Business in 2015
1. Product Engineering and Development: Reliably understand and agree on customer needs and then design and build the solutions that meet those needs.
2. Service Delivery and Management: Control costs while defining and reliably delivering services that satisfy your customers.
3. Supplier Management: Select and manage suppliers effectively to ensure that you get what you need from them.
4. People Management: Develop skills, build teams, manage performance, and shape your workforce to meet key business goals.
5. Data Management: Govern your data, improve data quality, and monitor key indicators to ensure that your data practice suits your enterprise needs.
6. Project and Work Management: Plan and monitor your work while managing risks to meet customer needs and business goals.
7. Process Management: Define and improve the processes that will support business objectives, and train staff to perform their roles using those processes.
8. Supporting Infrastructure: Make effective decisions, manage quality, and measure what matters most to your business.
To complement the “Top 8 Capabilities to Strengthen your Business in 2015” list, CMMI Institute also unveiled the “Assess Your Organization’s Capability” tool, an online self-assessment tool which extends access to Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). This new tool enables businesses of all sizes to begin their journey of elevating performance by diagnosing the current state of their organization. By answering a brief set of questions online, business leaders will gain critical insights into their organization’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as recommended solutions to improve the capability of their organization. The tool delivers an assessment report aligned to CMMI Institute’s eight capability areas, as well as a set of next steps that organizations can take to improve its capabilities.
“Capabilities are the key success factors that enable your organization to accomplish its mission and goals. Building capability allows you to move beyond heroic effort and isolated success to repeatable performance and continuous improvement,” said Kirk Botula, CEO of CMMI Institute. “Not all organizations need to build all capabilities, but every organization needs to understand and develop the capabilities that matter most in their field. CMMI Institute’s eight capability areas and new self-assessment tool will enable business leaders to get a comprehensive picture of their performance as they begin planning for improvements in 2015.”
How Capable is Your Organization?
Business leaders can now identify their key capabilities by conducting an online capability self-assessment—a health check designed to determine what the company needs to do in order to build or strengthen the skills and systems designed to lift the enterprise, business unit, or specific function to the next level. CMMI Institute is offering the self-assessment tool in both free and paid options:
Free Assess Your Organization’s Capability Tool – Allows you to track your organization’s capability across eight key business functions. After answering 31 questions users are provided a high level snapshot of their organization’s current state of capability and suggestions for developing next steps.
Paid Virtual CMMI Advisor – An in-depth health check of your current capability in several key areas, resulting in a robust gap analysis report that can be used to develop a plan for building the specific practices and processes that matter most to your business. The paid self-assessment tool covering Product Development capabilities or Service Delivery capabilities is available for $799. The tool that covers both sets of capabilities is available for $999.

Ford at CES Announces Smart Mobility Plan and 25 Global Experiments Designed to Change the Way the World Moves
LAS VEGAS - Wednesday, January 7th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
Ford at CES announces Ford Smart Mobility plan to use innovation to take company to next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data
25 global mobility experiments launched this year to test new ideas and address growing or increasing transportation challenges; insights gained will shape Ford’s future investments
Ford showcases SYNC® 3, its most advanced vehicle connectivity system, and highlights semi-autonomous vehicles on the road today and fully autonomous vehicles in development
2015 International CES
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Ford at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show is highlighting how it is using innovation not only to create advanced new vehicles but also to help change the way the world moves by solving today’s growing global transportation challenges.
The company announced its Ford Smart Mobility plan to use innovation to take it to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data. Ford also announced 25 mobility experiments around the world this year to test breakthrough transportation ideas to create better customer experiences, more flexible user-ship models and social collaboration that can reward customers.
“Even as we showcase connected cars and share our plans for autonomous vehicles, we are here at CES with a higher purpose,” said Ford President and CEO Mark Fields. “We are driving innovation in every part of our business to be both a product and mobility company – and, ultimately, to change the way the world moves just as our founder Henry Ford did 111 years ago.”
Also at CES, Ford is demonstrating SYNC® 3, its most advanced vehicle connectivity system, while highlighting semi-autonomous vehicles the company has on the road today and fully autonomous vehicles now in development.
25 global mobility experiments
The first steps for Ford Smart Mobility are 25 experiments – eight in North America, nine in Europe and Africa, seven in Asia and one in South America. Each experiment is designed to anticipate what customers will want and need in tomorrow’s transportation ecosystem.
“We see a world where vehicles talk to one another, drivers and vehicles communicate with the city infrastructure to relieve congestion, and people routinely share vehicles or multiple forms of transportation for their daily commute,” Fields said. “The experiments we’re undertaking today will lead to an all-new model of transportation and mobility within the next 10 years and beyond.”
The 25 experiments address four global megatrends – explosive population growth, an expanding middle class, air quality and public health concerns, and changing customer attitudes and priorities – challenging today’s transportation model and limiting personal mobility, especially in urban areas.
Fourteen of the 25 experiments are Ford-led research projects, and 11 are part of the company’s Innovate Mobility Challenge Series. The experiments include:
Big Data Drive: Dearborn, Michigan
Fleet Insights: United States
Data Driven Insurance: London
Remote Repositioning: Atlanta
City Driving On-Demand: London
Dynamic Social Shuttle: New York, London
Car Swap: Dearborn, Michigan
Ford Carsharing: Germany
Share-Car: Bangalore, India
Rapid Recharge & Share: Dearborn, Michigan
Data Driven Healthcare: The Gambia, West Africa
Parking Spotter: Atlanta
Info Cycle: Palo Alto, California
Painless Parking: London
With the Innovate Mobility Challenge Series, Ford invited innovators and developers around the world to create solutions for specific mobility challenges in North America and South America, Portugal, Africa, India, China, England and Australia.
Challenges included finding technology solutions to identify open parking spaces in urban areas, better ways to navigate crowded cities and the use of navigation and other tools to help people gain access to medical care in remote areas.
SYNC 3
Also at CES, Ford highlighted SYNC 3, the company’s new communications and entertainment system that is faster, more intuitive and easier to use with enhanced response to driver commands.
SYNC 3’s more conversational speech recognition technology, a more smartphone-like touch screen and easy-to-read graphics will help millions of drivers connect with their lives and control their smartphone while on the road.
The next-generation system builds on the capability of SYNC technology already in more than 10 million vehicles on the road globally. SYNC 3 begins arriving on new vehicles this year.
“Ford is delivering an easier way for customers to stay connected,” said Raj Nair, Ford chief technical officer and group vice president, Global Product Development. “SYNC 3 is another step forward in delivering connectivity features customers most want, and they tell us this kind of technology is an important part of their decision to buy our vehicles.”
Ford autonomous vehicles
Ford also highlighted the semi-autonomous vehicles it has on the road today and fully autonomous vehicles now in development for the future.
“We’re already manufacturing and selling semi-autonomous vehicles that use software and sensors to steer into both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces, adjust speed based on traffic flow or apply the brakes in an emergency,” Nair said. “There will be a Ford autonomous vehicle in the future, and we take putting one on the road very seriously.”
Ford’s semi-autonomous vehicle features available today include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and active park assist – with Traffic Jam Assist coming.
A fully autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid research vehicle is undergoing road testing. The vehicle uses the same semi-autonomous technology in Ford vehicles today, while adding four LiDAR sensors to generate a real-time 3D map of the surrounding environment.
The vehicle can sense objects around it using the LiDAR sensors, and uses advanced algorithms to help it learn to predict where vehicles and pedestrians might move.
“Our priority is not in making marketing claims or being in a race for the first autonomous car on the road,” Fields said. “Our priority is in making the first Ford autonomous vehicle accessible to the masses and truly enhancing customers’ lives.
“Henry Ford taught us long ago that a good business makes excellent products and earns a healthy return,” Fields added. “A great business does all that while creating a better world. That is what continues to drive us each day.”

Lenovo YOGA Family Takes Flexibility and Interactivity Even Further with New Technologies
Debuts AnyPen Technology on Tablet and Optimizes YOGA for Business with RealSense 3D Camera
ME NewsWire/Business Wire
LAS VEGAS - Tuesday, January 6th 2015
2015 International CES
Lenovo (SEHK:0992) (Pink Sheets:LNVGY) today announced at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show its new lineup of YOGA convertibles and tablets with new technologies that take flexibility and interactivity to a new level. The family includes the thin and light YOGA 3 in 11-in and 14-in models (in a 13-in chassis) built especially for today’s on-the-go and digitally-hungry consumers; the ThinkPad YOGA, optimized for businesses in a 12-in model, and a 14-in and 15-in model for prosumers with optional Intel® RealSense™ 3D camera; and the 8-in YOGA Tablet 2 with Windows, featuring Lenovo AnyPen Technology, that turns nearly any pen into a tablet writing tool.
No More Fingers, Lenovo AnyPen Technology Turns Pens and Pencils into Tablet Writing Tools
The 8-in YOGA Tablet 2 with Windows featuring AnyPen Technology extends the YOGA family tradition: the hardware not only adapts to users with its four modes, but it also provides a new, innovative writing solution that gives users a better way to interact with their device and distinguishes it from other tablets today.
With Lenovo AnyPen Technology, any pen or pencil1 becomes a handwriting tool – no stylus needed. Consumers can pick their preferred tool and use it directly on the tablet’s touch screen for easy navigation instead of relying on their finger. Lenovo AnyPen Technology makes handwriting on a tablet now as intuitive as writing on a piece of paper. Users will find this technology especially handy because smaller screen devices require more precise navigation than a finger. At the same time, Lenovo AnyPen Technology eliminates having to replace lost designated touch screen only styluses and the expense of purchasing one separately.
As part of the YOGA Tablet 2 family announced in fall 2014, the YOGA Tablet 2 8-in with Windows drew acclaim for its enhancements over the original YOGA Tablet. Not only does it have four unique modes unlike any other tablet on the market – Hold, Tilt, Stand and Hang – giving users more ways to do more, but it also features an unparalleled entertainment experience. Equipped with two front facing speakers, Wolfson Master Hi-Fi noise reduction and Dolby audio, this compact tablet goes large on entertainment. With Windows 8.1, its 8-in FHD display and Intel® Atom™ processor, users can strike a great balance between work and play. And mobile consumers will appreciate its extremely long battery life of up to 15 hours.
YOGA 3 – Flexible Fit for Today’s Consumer
The new YOGA 3 gives consumers even more flexibility with choices of an 11-in model or a new 14-in model with a backlit screen. Both convertibles showcase an envelope-thin design, measuring 18.3mm thin or less. In fact, the larger 14-in model gives users even more screen real estate yet remains extremely thin and light built in a 13-in chassis. And at just 15.8mm thin and 1.1kg, the 11-in model remains the lightest convertible in the YOGA family. Both feature the classic YOGA two-hinge design allowing 360° flexibility to give consumers amazing function and value with four special modes – Laptop, Stand, Tent and Tablet. Lenovo refined the hinge to now open and close more smoothly and also allow the screen to lay flat at 180°.
More than just beautiful technology, the new YOGA convertibles are performers with powerful up to 5th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors on the 14-in model, Windows 8.1, FHD screens and fast 802.11 A/C WiFi. Strong performance deserves brilliantly loud and clear sound, so Lenovo equipped the YOGA 3 with stereo speakers and Waves audio. And for a more adaptive, intuitive experience, Lenovo includes Harmony intelligent software. Harmony helps users discover and customize applications and includes automatic brightness adjustment when reading a book, enables motion control or optimizes audio settings in specific modes and recommends new apps.
Users can pick from fun color choices including the head-turning Clementine Orange, Platinum Silver, new Chalk White or Ebony Black.
ThinkPad YOGA – Readying Professionals with Power of Two New Innovations
Lenovo created the new ThinkPad YOGA 12-in, 14-in and new 15-in convertibles to meet the needs of businesses and prosumers, striking a perfect balance between productivity and a great PC for personal use. Built for small office, home office and students, the ThinkPad YOGA gives them mobile flexibility featuring the new ActivePen technology in select models along with elegant design and business-optimized features including an optional Intel RealSense 3D camera on the ThinkPad YOGA 15.
Select ThinkPad YOGA models feature an optional ActivePen for convenient, accurate and precise handwriting. Ideal for productivity takes like taking notes, sending emails or creating presentations, ActivePen closely mimicks a user’s actual handwriting on paper. The YOGA 12 continues to offer a digitizer/pen option that provides an internal garage for the pen. ThinkPad is creating an innovative hardware and software pen experience, regardless of pen technology.
With four modes and all day battery life, users can digitally write or enjoy any of the ThinkPad YOGA’s modes: type or write in Laptop mode, take class notes in Tablet mode, present to colleagues in Stand mode or just relax by watching a movie in Tent mode. And the convertible’s Lift n’ Lock keyboard makes switching between Laptop and Tablet modes trouble-free without keys getting stuck.
Thin and light at just 19mm thin and less than 1.5kg on the 12-in model, these stylish convertibles come in black with an attractive backlit keyboard as well as FHD touch screen display.
The business-ready ThinkPad YOGA also features another new technology to help small businesses: a built-in Intel® RealSense™ 3D camera. Lenovo’s first 3D camera in a laptop, it comes optional on the 15-in model. Today 3D cameras are being used by businesses for more personal video conferencing and scanning small objects for 3D printing applications.
The ThinkPad YOGA also comes ready for business with powerful up to 5th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors, Windows 8.1 with optional vPro for managed environments (12-in only), large storage up to 1 TB and Dolby Home Theatre v4.
The ThinkPad YOGA models expand the overall computing experience with Lenovo’s SHAREit app to share files easily between devices. Small business users may opt to add support via Lenovo Services for their ThinkPad YOGA convertible, choosing among a variety of services: Accidental Damage Protection, Warranty Upgrade, Priority Technical Support and more.
