Taulia Clients Airbus and Sasol Recognized at the 2019 Supply Chain Finance Awards

Taulia clients Airbus and Sasol were both recognized at this year’s SCF Awards.

Airbus took the category award for Transport & Logistics and the overall Gold Award for the best demonstration of SCF in action. Sasol was named the winner in the Manufacturing & Industrial category.

SAN FRANCISCO.-Saturday 30 November 2019 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Supply Chain Finance (SCF) Awards showcase companies’ achievements in demonstrating best practice and innovation in supplier finance. Announced on 28th November at a presentation ceremony at Amsterdam’s Beurs van Berlage, this year’s SCF Awards brought double success for Taulia’s clients, with Airbus and Sasol both recognized for their considerable achievements.

Airbus not only received the category award for Transport & Logistics, but also took the Gold Award for the category-winning entry that best demonstrates SCF in action. The company’s success was richly deserved, not least because this ambitious project saw Airbus adopt a supply chain finance program that could in time be scaled across the company’s entire supply chain.

Since implementing the program, Airbus has made billions of dollars available in early payments to thousands of suppliers. The success of the project was supported by proactive measures taken by Airbus to align major stakeholders on the project, as well as by Taulia’s highly streamlined supplier onboarding process.

Sasol, meanwhile, was named the winner in the Manufacturing & Industrial category. Seeking to replace manual discounting processes and provide additional liquidity for SME suppliers, the integrated chemicals and energy company had adopted a technology-enabled dynamic discounting program provided by Taulia. As a result, the company’s early payment discount program has been scaled from 150 suppliers to almost 3,500.

In addition to capturing remarkably more early payment discounts, the program has also brought significant efficiency gains. While a team of 12 had previously been needed to handle supplier phone calls, this has been reduced to a single employee, with the others redeployed to value-adding tasks.

“This was a great night for Taulia’s clients and I am delighted to congratulate Airbus and Sasol for their achievements,” said Michael Rieskamp, Managing Director of Europe, for Taulia. “Both projects demonstrated a clear commitment to best practice and innovation, and their success is well deserved.”

Note for editors: Taulia is a leading provider of working capital solutions headquartered in San Francisco, California. Through a unique combination of its AI-powered platform, people and process, Taulia helps companies access the value tied up in their supply chain by transitioning from inefficient and often manual working capital management practices into technology-led, working capital optimization strategies. Taulia’s vision is to create a world where every business thrives and by enabling buyers and suppliers to choose when to pay and get paid, it liberates cash across the supply chain. A network of 1.8 million businesses use Taulia’s technology and the company processes over $300 billion every year. Taulia is trusted by over 120 of the world’s largest companies with clients including Airbus, AstraZeneca, Nissan, Telstra, the UK Government’s Crown Commercial Services and Vodafone. Achieving revenues of $48.8 million in 2018, the company is featured in the 2019 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

Investor Tej Kohli Expands ‘Venture Philanthropy’ Into 3d-printed Bionic Arms

The Tej Kohli Foundation is funding 3D-printed bionic arms for 10 British children from Bristol-based robotics pioneer Open Bionics.

Open Bionics is building and developing the next generation of low-cost bionic limbs that turn disabilities into superpowers.

Kohli was also an early investor in Open Bionics and advocates its superior robotics technology for improving the confidence of children.

LONDON -Saturday 30 November 2019 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Investor Tej Kohli is to fund the purchase of ten bionic arms for children with limb differences in the UK. The Tej Kohli Foundation hopes that its commitment to fund arms for ten children over the next 5 months as part of its ‘Future Bionics’ program will highlight how assistive technology can substantially improve the lives and confidence of young people living with disabilities. The Tej Kohli Foundation hopes to inspire and influence other healthcare institutions to follow this lead and discover the advanced 3D-printed technology.

In England the National Health Service (‘NHS’) currently provides a single-grip myoelectric-controlled (‘myo’) prosthesis at a cost of approximately £8,000. However, the Open Bionics Hero Arm can be controlled with the electrical signals generated by a user’s muscles and has superior multi-grip functionality that enables users to perform many more everyday activities.

The Open Bionics Hero Arm costs £10,000 through a private prosthetics clinic in the UK, whereas other advanced multi-grip bionic hands cost £30,000 - £60,000. The Tej Kohli Foundation will spend an initial £100,000 to launch its ‘Future Bionics’ programme, which will enable ten British children to access not just a superior technology, but a better life.

The first Hero Arm recipient is 10-year-old Jacob Pickering from Blackburn, who will receive his new Hero Arm just in time for Christmas. Jacob was born without his right arm as a result of amniotic band syndrome. All Jacob has spoken about for the past month is the Hero Arm, and his father David is “completely overwhelmed” that Jacob has been selected for a donation and claims that it will “change Jacob’s life”. The second Hero Arm recipient is 14-year-old Harris Gribble from Exeter, who is a keen Rugby and Cricket player.

The lightweight Hero Arm is currently the only multi-grip myo prosthetic arm that is available for paediatric use. The enhanced ability of the user to be able to personalise their 3D-printed Open Bionics Hero Arm is also a huge boost to mental well-being and to perceived social acceptance. This is particularly important for younger people.

Investor Tej Kohli first discovered Bristol-based Open Bionics when he invested into ‘Rewired’, a robotics-focused venture studio ‘with a humanitarian bent’ that was a very-early backer of Open Bionics in 2017.

Tej Kohli, Co-Founder of the Tej Kohli Foundation said:

“We started the Tej Kohli Foundation in 2005 with a project to provide daily meals for 1,000 children in Costa Rica. Since then the Tej Kohli Foundation has supported projects all over the world and helped tens of thousands of people, especially those living with disability. This gift of ten bionic arms is the first project that we have ever initiated in the UK. I see it as just the beginning, and my hope is that this gift will help to highlight the positive difference that technology can make to the confidence and prospects of a younger person. We’re doing this as an example, but we hope that others will follow our lead. These technologies are now so accessible and affordable that healthcare organisations such as the NHS should do more to embrace and improve access to them for disabled young people.”

Samantha Payne, Co-Founder and COO of Open Bionics said:

“We’re really grateful to the Tej Kohli Foundation for pledging to fund advanced bionic arms for ten children in the UK. These children are amongst dozens of people with upper limb differences in the UK fundraising right now for a Hero Arm. We've worked really hard to achieve a price point for the device that is acceptable for existing NHS budgets for prosthetic provision, and we very much hope the NHS sees how helpful these devices are and will begin offering them to the people who need them.”

Children and adults with below-elbow limb differences can register their interest at www.openbionics.com.

Images and profiles of the recipients of the Hero Arms can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wakjc66nz1ljjpb/AADwtFqgu7j-xhEtTRzYuBdsa?dl=0

About Open Bionics

Open Bionics was founded in 2014 by Joel Gibbard and Samantha Payne with the goal of developing affordable, assistive devices that enhance the human body. In other words, Open Bionics turns disabilities into superpowers. The Bristol-based bionics company is known globally for using 3D printing and 3D scanning, along with some clever software and design, to make advanced, affordable and accessible bionic limbs. In May 2018, the company released the Hero Arm, the world’s first medically approved 3D-printed bionic arm, and the very first multi-grip bionic arm for children as young as eight years old. The Hero Arm is available now through private prosthetic clinics all around the world. Open Bionics have a development contract with NHS England, with the aim of offering the Hero Arm on the NHS in the UK. They also have royalty-free licensing agreements with Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Eidos Montreal and Twentieth Century Fox, making science fiction a reality.

The Japan Sustainable Seafood Award is given to people, organizations, and projects that contribute to the promotion of sustainable seafood and enhance the sustainability of the fisheries industry in Japan, and is comprised of the Initiative and Collaboration Award categories. Panasonic's project was selected as one of the finalists for the Initiative Award and ultimately awarded as the Champion.

From March 2018, Panasonic has been serving MSC, ASC certified (*2) sustainable seafood in its cafeterias. MSC and ASC certifications are the only 2 certifications recognized by WWF, and Panasonic became the first company to continuously serve such sustainable seafood in its corporate cafeterias. As of November 20, 2019, sustainable seafood has been adopted at 27 cafeterias, and by the end of FY2020, Panasonic is aiming to serve sustainable seafood in approximately 100 corporate cafeterias in Japan.

Panasonic became the Champion for taking the initiative to adopt sustainable seafood in its corporate cafeterias and for promoting CoC (*3) certification among the food service industry. Its efforts were also highly recognized because of the significant social impact it can have through its numerous employees and for the know-how it has provided to other companies.

Through these efforts, Panasonic will continue to contribute to achieving SDGs by enhancing awareness for sustainable seafood and by changing consumer behavior. More specifically, through its activities in corporate cafeterias, Panasonic will communicate to its employees the critical situation of fishery resources, and augment employee awareness for MSC and ASC certification, so that they will change their consumer behavior and begin choosing sustainable seafood even outside their workplace.

*1 SDGs refer to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development comprised of 17 Sustainability Development Goals unanimously adopted at the United Nations in 2015. This initiative specifically addresses Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.

*2 MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certifies sustainable and appropriately managed fisheries, while ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certifies responsible aquaculture practices that minimize harm to the environment and society. In both cases, products and suppliers are audited against stringent standards by a third-party certifying organization.

*3 Abbreviation for Chain of Custody, which refers to processing and distribution control. It is a system that ensures the traceability of products by following the route they have taken in their distribution and processing in order to prevent contamination of uncertified seafood into certified seafood.

From sensors that are up to 10,000 more accurate to ultra-secure communications, quantum technologies are set to push back the boundaries of physics and unleash previously unexploited properties of matter.

An aircraft flying from Paris to New York with only an inertial navigation system to guide it could determine its location to within a few kilometres. With future quantum sensors, it could land with a precision of within a metre. In other fields, quantum sensors could detect tumours that are invisible today, or provide a basis for developing new sources of energy.

Quantum physics relies on radically new concepts and ways of manipulating matter. Quantum sensors, like quantum communications and quantum computing, are currently under the microscope in the laboratories operated by Thales and its academic partners (CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay, etc.) at the Saclay research and technology cluster, south of Paris.

On 26 November 2019, Thales and its academic and research partners are organising a presentation at Saclay to highlight European excellence in quantum research: from cold atoms to flawed diamonds and superconductors, scientific progress in quantum physics has the potential to harness unexploited properties of matter and unleash a whole host of new opportunities.

Thales is working on these new properties to develop the next generation of quantum sensors, relying on the exact same technological building blocks as quantum computers. Quantum encryption too, could soon lead to communication systems that are completely secure and trustworthy.

Thales has also been selected to take part in the European OPENQKD initiative as part of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) consortium chosen by the European Commission to install infrastructure in several European countries to test quantum communication networks.

Navigating intelligently among millions of aircraft movements: Thales presents the brain of tomorrow's aircraft.

Ultimately, quantum technologies will provide untold benefits for avionics systems, including order-of-magnitude improvements in navigation precision. But the immediate truth is that solutions are needed now to deal with the growth in air traffic, which is expected to have doubled by 2030.

This is the thinking behind PureFlyt, developed by Thales as the brain of tomorrow's aircraft, a fully connected cockpit that will significantly increase aircraft performance.

PureFlyt will be unveiled in Toulouse on 25 November. One of the core innovations that makes PureFlyt a game-changer is its ability to draw on both onboard and open-world data, such as weather information, so that the aircraft trajectory can be permanently controlled, adapted and enhanced, resulting in optimised flight, decreased fuel consumption and a better flying experience for both passengers and crew.

Securing our identity has become mission critical in the world we live in today. By standing for Augmented Identity, an identity that ensures privacy and trust and guarantees secure, authenticated and verifiable transactions, we reinvent the way we think, produce, use and protect one of our greatest assets – our identity – whether for individuals or for objects, whenever and wherever security matters. We provide Augmented Identity for international clients from Financial, Telecom, Identity, Public Security and IoT sectors.

With 13,000 employees around the world, IDEMIA serves clients in 180 countries.
