The Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior stressed the need for parents to be vigilant and to avoid leaving children alone and unattended especially inside cars near shopping centers or parks and while visiting the family, in order to avoid suffocation accidents, and other accidents that may be caused by neglect. It also called upon parents to always comply with prevention and safety procedures, especially during Eid Al Adha holidays.
Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, called upon parents to provide the necessary means to protect children. He pointed out that children do not realize the risks surrounding them, hence the vital role of parents in protecting children from themselves and from others. He also hoped that such incidents would not occur, wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.
He added: "The Ministry of Interior is exerting tremendous efforts to provide distinguished services according to the best international standards, in order to enhance the public's trust and increase their satisfaction. The ministry is also making unstinting efforts to promote protection and security of children, by enhancing community members’ awareness about security and safety requirements, and supporting efforts aimed at protecting children against potential challenges and risks. These efforts are complemented by boosting family awareness among all social categories regarding the family's instrumental and valuable role, being the nucleus of society."
For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, stressed the center’s keenness to intensify preventive awareness of the dangers that might disturb the peace of this auspicious occasion; especially with regard to leaving children unattended while family members become preoccupied with exchanging Eid greetings with parents, relatives, and neighbors. He also called upon parents to take the necessary precautions to enhance child protection from getting lost and to protect them against accidents or other dangers when playing in the streets unattended. “Children are a responsibility and we are bound to protect them and keep them out of harm’s way,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that all police and security bodies are intensifying their efforts to enhance security and safety at the various public locations. He also urged parents to make sure to provide all prevention and safety requirements around their homes and their children’s play areas, in a bid to ensure their safety from potential accidents, particularly against the dangers of fireworks. He urged parents not to hesitate to communicate with police stations when necessary by calling the emergency call center on 999; noting that police is constantly ready to receive calls from the public and to provide them with assistance and support.
