SCHILLER PARK, Ill. - Wednesday, May 1st 2013 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Breaking a sweat without your smartphone will be a thing of the past, even at the gym. Global trend reports predict sports- and health-focused mobile app downloads will reach a billion annually by 2016.* With the launch of its cloud-based LFconnect website and app, Life Fitness, the global leader in commercial fitness equipment manufacturing, provides customizable tools to fitness facilities and exercisers looking to tap into this trend.
“Tracking workouts increases motivation and makes achieving fitness goals easier,” said Dan Wille, Life Fitness vice president of global marketing and product development. “New technology allows Life Fitness treadmills, elliptical and bikes to integrate with smartphones, so users can track and share fitness results with exercise buddies or personal trainers.”
The free LFconnect app is an extension of the LFconnect website, which lets users choose preferred workouts, fitness goals and machine settings from home or on the go and then instantly access customized options at the gym. Available for Apple and Android devices and supported in 11 languages, the app syncs with Life Fitness cardio equipment featuring Engage™ or Discover™ consoles. It’s also compatible with in-home Life Fitness cardio machines featuring a Track console and the Life Fitness Platinum Club Series line.
When plugged into compatible equipment, the LFconnect app displays a “calories burned” meter that fills up in real time. Exercisers can create workout routines, pre-program machine settings or download a workout “shared” via a professional personal trainer using the app. Afterwards, exercisers’ statistics are automatically saved.
“Thanks to our ‘open’ model, users can choose the LFconnect app or a growing number of equipment-integrated fitness tracking apps for a seamless, smarter workout experience,” said Wille.
As the only fitness equipment maker with an API (Application Programming Interface) open to developers worldwide, Life Fitness encourages creation of fitness applications that engage equipment and give exercisers a more personal and exciting experience.
