Under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Hind Bint Hamad Al Thani, the Vice Chairman & CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, the fourth edition of the International Universities Arabic Debating Championship organized by QatarDebate, concluded. The championship took place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) from April 8-12, 2017, and included 87 teams from 46 Arab and non-Arab countries.
The Qatar University Team for boys took first place in this year’s edition of the International Universities Arabic Debating Championship, followed by the International Islamic University Malaysia team and the Qatar University Team for girls in second and third place respectively.
In her address at the closing ceremony, HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani stated that
“QatarDebate, and events such as the International Universities Arabic Debating Championship, are invaluable tools that empower and educate our young people on the importance of cross-cultural exchange, global dialogue and critical thinking. These initiatives form part of QF’s ongoing drive to foster a culture of creativity and to develop decision makers and global leaders of the future who are equipped to discuss challenges and devise solutions in our international community.”
In her speech at the closing ceremony, Dr. Hayat Abdulla Maarafi, Executive Director of QatarDebate center, welcomed their Excellencies, guests and participants and expressed her pleasure to see such a great crowd in the Doha, “brought together by the Arabic language, despite their differences,” she said.
From her part, Dr. Hayat Maarafi, Executive Director of QatarDebate, praised in her closing speech HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani's patronage of the competition and the honor of her presence; to Elite Academy members, and to Al Jazeera Media Network as Media Partener & Qatar Airways as Official carrier.
