(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The AIDS Healthcare Foundation last weekend painted the city of Harare Gold with the launch of its stylish and attractive ICON Gold Condom. The launch which held in one of the tertiary institutions had in attendance over five hundred students, and some representatives of the Ministry of Health.
In his remarks, Dr Enerst Chikwati, Country Program Manager, AHF Zimbabwe explained the essence of the launch.
“This is part of AHF’s public health campaign to encourage HIV prevention and safer sex practices among youths and the general public,” he shared.
“The Condoms will be distributed free of charge and will be made available in various locations within and outside the institutions to encourage accessibility,” he added.
As new HIV infections among young people continue to rise, the need to strengthen youth friendly prevention services becomes imperative and AHF’s launch of the ICON Gold Condoms in Zimbabwe is against the backdrop that consistent and correct use of Condoms still remains one of the most effective ways of reducing new HIV infections, STIs and unplanned pregnancies.
“We commend our partners AHF for launching this ICON Gold Condom which has been specifically designed for the youths and I will like to encourage you to use them. ICON Gold is perfect for our young people to prevent new infections” explained Dr. Owen Mugurungi, Director of AIDS and TB Unit in the Health and Child Care Ministry.
“Only 54% of the country’s Condoms needs are met and our data shows that while sexually transmitted infections have reduced in the older population, the same cannot be said for the younger population” he added.
The AHF ICON Gold Condoms boast of very unique and striking features; it is thin, large, contains natural rubber latex and has a shiny gold pack, making it a people’s delight.
