The Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Selection and Recruitment Department, launched the “Hand in Hand” initiative to support staff members with disabilities at the Police General Headquarters. The one-year initiative will be launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior’s Centers for Rehabilitation and Employment of people with disabilities.
Colonel Mohamed Saeed Al Kaabi, Deputy Director of the Selection and Recruitment Department, Head of the initiative, chaired a preparatory meeting at the department’s headquarters. The meeting discussed the plan devised by Abu Dhabi Police to recruit a number of graduates from these every year at the different police directorates, departments and sections, in accordance with their skills and competencies. Attendees also discussed ways to achieve the goals of the initiative.
Col. Al Kaabi emphasized that the initiative comes as a part of the police leadership’s directives, within the ‘Plants of Hope’ initiative, which was launched by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The ‘Plants of Hope’ initiative aims to support and care for people with disabilities, provide them with a decent life and integrate them into the society.
Col. Al Kaabi added that the initiative aims to avail of the skills and competencies of this category for the benefit of police work, to boost their self-esteem and encourage them to work at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, to serve the safety, stability and progress of the UAE.
For his part, Captain Ahmed Hasan Al Hosani, Executive Director of the initiative, said that it strives to provide a suitable work environment for people with disabilities; treat them equally as their non-disabled peers in terms of rights and duties; as well as provide them with an opportunity to advance in the professional life. He explained that the initiative will seek to include staff members with disabilities working at the Abu Dhabi Police in the various events and activities, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior’s Center, with the aim of promoting communication and interaction with the various segments of society.
Major Dr. Khaled Khalfan Al Ameri, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Centers for Rehabilitation and Employment of people with disabilities, hailed the initiative and said that it reflects the attention dedicated by the police leadership to this segment of society, and its firm belief in the important role that they can play in achieving stability, progress and sustainable development in the UAE.
He said that the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ recruited a large number of the center’s graduates in the past years, and has been doing so annually. This approach embodies the police leadership’s keenness to cater to the needs of the public in general and especially people with special needs; provide training and job opportunities consistent with their skills and capabilities, and enable them to lead an independent life, with economic, social and psychological stability, as well as to participate in the development of the UAE.
The meeting was attended by Thumna Al Ketbi and Salha Al Ameri form the Ministry of Interior’s Centers for Rehabilitation and Employment of people with disabilities.
