During the Ministry of Interior’s Council hosted by Bakhit Suwaidan Al Ketbi at his residence in Al Ain, participants called for enacting policies to promote positive patriotism amongst citizens. They also called for establishing work strategies that focus on the valuable role of the family and educational institutions in enhancing citizens’ loyalty and sense of belonging. Participants also stressed the need to reinforce the sense of patriotism in young people, by encouraging them to attend the different social and traditional events and festivals, and to engage in volunteer work.
The council, held in Al Ain under the theme “Loyalty and the sense of belonging to the country”, is part of the series of awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Brigadier Dr. Khalfan Sultan Al Kendi, Head of the Personnel Affairs Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, tackled the sense of belonging and loyalty towards the UAE. He explained the strong and pronounced connection between both concepts; stressing the need to nurture these positive concepts amongst the youth and to instill the value of positive patriotism in them as an expression of gratitude towards the generous benevolent country.
Adding further, Brigadier Al Kendi said: “Loyalty triggers a strong sense of belonging and the sense of belonging strengthens healthy social relations. Loyalty is clearly expressed in a deep-rooted sense of belonging to the country and loyalty to the leaders, and is closely linked to national pride.”
Brigadier Al Kendi highlighted the main components of the values of loyalty and belonging to the country, notably taking pride in the country and its achievements and maintaining its national security. He noted that loyalty and belonging to the country are instrumental to enhancing citizens’ national identity based on several aspects, such as common history, religion, and environment.
In conclusion, Brigadier Al Kendi discussed the effect of increasing citizens’ loyalty and sense of belonging, and their role in reinforcing their sense of patriotism.
