(BUSINESS WIRE) The 28th annual of CARTES Exhibition successfully demonstrated its ability to bring together professionals of smart technologies around innovative know-how and prospective exchanges with industry experts.

450 exhibitors, from all over the world

This year, and for the first time, more than 20,000 visitors from nearly 140 countries attended the event. The 3 days of the show were, for them, the opportunity to meet 450 French and foreign exhibitors, to discuss the challenges and prospects of the sector, to present future deployments as well as 2013’s major trends in terms of payment, mobility, security and identification.

The Smart Shopping Area, mutations in the heart of commerce

Among the topics in the spotlight, « smart shopping » occupied a special place with a dedicated space summarizing the innovations in distribution and paymentthrough demonstrations that enabled the visitors to apprehend the changes in the retail industry for years to come.

Brazil, guest of honor country

This year, Brazil was celebrated. Its dynamism in terms of innovation in the secure transactions industry was repeatedly emphasized by exhibitors during their workshops, and by local experts who came to present the payment and identification solutions deployed in their country.

With this new edition, CARTES reflects the international scope, but also the boom of the smart technology and digital security industries:

This year, the show also benefited from the interest of the visitors from Milipol Paris, the worldwide exhibition dedicated to internal State security, and which was held next to CARTES.

CARTES 2013 Conferences and highlights

CARTES Secure Connexions Event once again offered many business, partnership and networking opportunities.

Among CARTES’ special events, the World Card Summit opening conference brought together the market leaders (Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrient, Infineon Technologies, Morpho, NXP Semiconductors, Oberthur Technologies) to discuss the Opportunities & Threats for the Secure Digital Industry, the Impact of Biometrics, Cloud Security & Mobility.

It’s also at the World Card Summit that Eurosmart presented in preview the annual forecast of the « Smart Secure Devices » market figures. The association announced an annual shipment of 7.2 billion Smart Secure Devices in 2013, and forecast a 7% growth to over 7.7 billion units to be shipped in 2014. Eurosmart confirmed the worldwide continued demand for high-end technological solutions combining convenience and security.

Beyond these special announcements, CARTES also organised thematic conferences and exhibitor workshops, which reflected the expectations of the users of new applications in terms of speed, simplicity and security, and that of the professionals (banks, retailers, telcos, etc.) in terms of customer data analysis, marketing orientation, cost reduction, etc.

In total, more than 1,600 delegates attended 120 conferences.

This year, mobile terminals, commerce convergence, innovation and dematerialization in prepaid were very successful topics displayed on the stands and presented through various conferences, dedicated in particular to:

    Securing mobile life entirely (personal data, payment, authentication, etc),
    mPOS acceptance (mobile phones become payment terminals),
    and the shifting of the point of sale (to the mobile - mCommerce, eCommerce - or closer to the customer location – smart store walls, posters and ads become direct sales and impulse buying channels -).
