Toshiba to Develop New Transistor Array Series Using Latest Process Technology

Expanding line-up of the high-efficient transistor arrays by adopting DMOS FET [1] for the output driver

TOKYO - Thursday, September 18th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced it is developing the BiCD[2] transistor array TB62xxxA series as the successor to its bipolar transistor array TD62xxx series, which has found use in a wide range of applications, including motor, relay and LED drives. The new generation series has a DMOS FET type output driver developed with the latest BiCD process technology. Sample shipments and mass-production are scheduled for June 2015.

The new products will offer faster switching and reduction of input current than current bipolar transistor arrays and contribute to improved power efficiency.

Toshiba has supplied bipolar transistor arrays for over 40 years, and the medium-voltage (around 50V) TD62xxx series currently offers a line-up of over 100 devices. With the recent rise in customer demand for MOSFET type arrays rather than bipolar arrays, Toshiba decided to start the development of the transistor array using BiCD process, the technology expected to be the future standard.

Toshiba started product development from this month, and will start sample shipments and mass production of TB62003A, successor to the current TD62003A, as the first product in the new line-up in June 2015. The company subsequently plans to release two products in the TB62xxxA series every six months, building up to more than 12 products.

Key Features of the New Series

Process technology: 130nm BiCD (Toshiba’s latest BiCD process technology)
Sustaining voltage:50V, same as current bipolar transistor arrays
Package: The same package with same pin allocations as current bipolar transistor arrays
Output Current: 500mA(For TB62003A: same as current products)
    Function: Same as current products
Product name: “TB62xxxA series”, changed from the current “TD62xxxA series” (Naming rules will also change)

[1]: Double-Diffused MOSFET [2]: Process technology that allows integration of Bipolar, CMOS, and DMOS devices
