Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, June 19th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Directorate of Traffic at Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police urged truck drivers in the Western region to ensure the validity and good condition of their vehicles’ tires. The directorate also indicated that traffic monitoring has been intensified on all roads in Abu Dhabi, especially in the soaring temperatures during summer. Major Suhail Sayah Al Mazroui, Chief of the Western Region Traffic Section, pointed out that numerous outreach programs were organized for truck drivers. He said: “The programs included field lectures aimed at urging drivers to check the validity of their vehicles’ tires and warning them against the risks of using the tires for extended periods of time, at long distances during summer, which may lead to tire wear and tear; and to pay attention to the risks arising from their use for long periods, especially in summer.” Furthermore, Major Al Mazroui noted that the Directorate provided truck drivers with the necessary information that drivers should be aware of before purchasing tires. They include the manufacturing date and date of expiry after installation (6 months for trucks and 2 years for light vehicles); the importance of changing an expired tire; and the proper ways to store tires. Drivers should also be aware of how to inspect tires prior to buying, and to ensure that they have not been affected by heat or humidity. The Chief of the Western Region Traffic Section called upon motorists to ensure the quality, good condition and the validity of their vehicles’ tires. He said that the Ssction is carrying out campaigns to arrest offenders who drive their vehicles with expired or faulty tires. These campaigns aim to protect them and maintain the safety of other road users and to avoid serious traffic accidents that occur due to tire bursts causing fatalities and serious injuries.
