Amman, Jordan. - Saturday, March 19th 2016 [ME NewsWire]
For the first time in its almost decade long history, the Arab region’s premier CSR and sustainability award initiative was launched in the Levant country of Jordan. This year the award organizers have put up a series of road shows and press launches in different countries to maximize the penetration of the award among public and private sector organisations across the Arab world. Following press launches in Cairo and Dubai, the organising team visited Amman and was joined by the Al Hussein Society, a leading non-government organisation working in the field of disability and rehabilitation. The organising body of the award Arabia CSR Network is a leading professional organisation based in the United Arab Emirates that has been actively promoting CSR and sustainability since its establishment in 2004. The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding to promote mutual objectives and interests. The press launch was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Majda Raad, patron of Al Hussein Society. Accompanying her was the executive director of Al Hussein Society, Annie Medzhagopian Abu Hanna.
The prestigious award is under the auspices of the League of Arab States for the third consecutive year, and is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme for the same period. Speaking at the launch the President and CEO of the network Habiba Al Marashi remarked, “Proudly the Awards is a homegrown product of the Arab region and aims to elevate organisations in the region to the heights of excellence in CSR implementation and overall sustainability performance.” She also explained, “It is a recognition platform, a knowledge exchange tool and most importantly a source of inspiration for private and public organisations in the region who are committed to their responsibility towards their societies and the planet.”
The Arabia CSR Awards ninth cycle commenced in the month of January with a press launch in Egypt. Applications are sought from organisations of all sizes and across sectors. Awards will be conferred in nine categories in a glittering awarding ceremony on the 28th of October.
