The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ called for enhancing the culture of prevention in occupational safety and health among police staff members during the celebration to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which was held on Thursday at the Forensic Evidence Hall, at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, who attended the celebration, stressed the importance of promoting the culture of prevention and the positive impacts of implementing occupational health and safety regulations amongst police staff members. He pointed out that the UAE is at the forefront of countries in the region that dedicated significant attention to developing and spreading the health and occupational safety culture through various legislations and laws that are completely aligned with the strategic objectives aimed at achieving the UAE Vision 2021.
Major General Al Rumaithi highlighted the importance of marking this global event and explained that the emirate of Abu Dhabi has managed to become a leading entity amongst world countries to prepare and implement occupational health and safety management legislations as a legal requirement to support its efforts towards a safe and sustainable society in accordance with the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision.
Moreover, Major General Al Rumaithi praised the attention and support of the higher leadership, which enabled the Abu Dhabi Police to become one of the leading entities to apply the objectives of the occupational health and safety system. He also commended the leadership’s dedicated attention to the safety of its staff members and its commitment to ensure that they work in a healthy and suitable environment. This approach is part of the efforts aimed at upgrading police work and achieving the leadership’s mission, to reach a society that enjoys safety and security, by providing high quality police services.
The Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police honored the General Directorate of Security and Ports Affairs, as the best entity to implement the environment, health and occupational safety system during 2015. Lieutenant Abdullah Salim Al Mazroui, from the Strategy and Performance Development Department was also honored as the best officer in implementing the environment, health and safety standards for the year 2015.
The event and honoring ceremony were attended by Major General Maktoum Ali Al Shareefi, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, and a number of directors general and senior officers of the Abu Dhabi Police.
Major General Al Rumaithi and the senior officers participated in the medical examination carried out by a team from the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police. This drive is part of the department’s efforts and attention dedicated to the health of its staff members, their families and community members in general, as well as organizing year-long awareness activities and participating in the various medical events.
The celebration included two lectures. The first lecture, titled “Striking the balance between operational and health and safety duties in the police service”, was delivered by Elena Harper, occupational accidents investigator in the United Kingdom. The second lecture, which was delivered by First Lieutenant Abdullah Salem Al Mazroui, staff member at the Strategy and Performance Development Department of Abu Dhabi Police, tackled the proper ways to cope with work pressures.
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, celebrated on the 28 of April, focuses on a systems’ approach for the prevention of workplace accidents and the implementation of an Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) as a tool for the promotion of the continual improvement of OSH performance at the organization’s level.

Al Rumaithi launches "Environmental Health and Safety" website for the Abu Dhabi Police
In the presence of Major General Maktoum Al Shareefi, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police,Major General Omair Muhammad Al Muhairi, Director General of Police Operations, Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the official website dedicated for reports on environmental safety and occupational health cases and incidents for ADP staff member. The launch event, which took place prior to the main celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, was also attended by a number of directors general at Abu Dhabi Police.
The website, which was launched by the Strategy and Performance Development Department on the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, under the theme "Do not let work pressures affect you", is dedicated for receiving reports of occupational accidents and injuries and all cases related to the work environment. According to Captain Ziab Al Neyadi, Head of the Environment, Health and Safety Section at the General Directorate of Strategy and Performance Development, “the website, intended for the Abu Dhabi Police, allows staff members to upload photos, files and reports to the concerned department, which in turn, take the necessary action in this regard.”
Captain Al Neyadi also pointed out that the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) team, has revamped more than 90% of the departments at the Abu Dhabi Police General headquarters (GHQ), in pursuance of the environment, health and occupational safety system project plan, which is part of the legislative framework for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This approach achieved the aspired objectives and allowed the various departments included in the project to obtain the Environmental ISO 14001 and the Health & Safety Standard OHSAS 18001 certifications for Occupational Health and Safety management systems.
