During a specialized workshop held at the Police Officers Club in Abu Dhabi, the Complaints and Suggestions Department affiliated with the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior discussed updating the innovation and creativity strategy of the Ministry of Interior. Discussions also revolved around aligning the strategy with the national innovation strategy and the fourth generation of the government excellence system, the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award.
In his address on the occasion, Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General at the Ministry of Interior, said: “We meet today to discuss and propose innovative and creative initiatives according to the Ministry of Interior’s 2014-2016 strategic plan. Creativity and innovation are amongst the main pillars for developing institutional work within organizations and are key to ensuring both continuity and endurance.
“This workshop reflects our desire to develop and introduce innovative and creative initiatives to the year 2015-2016. Innovation is one of the three main axes of the government excellence system, and the system aims to improve the work of the government through this key axis. To mark the launch of the fourth generation of the generation of the government excellence system, we invite you to get involved in the process. We want your ideas,” he said.
Moreover, Colonel Al Dhaheri called upon the participants in the workshop to enrich the proposals and initiatives through active participation and to ultimately help the Ministry achieve its objectives.
Major Mohammed Ismail Al-Harmoudi, Head of the Complaints and Suggestions Department at the Ministry, highlighted the ‘Innovation Café’, one of innovative mechanisms used as a tool in the workshop. The ‘Innovation Café’ was used as a brainstorming session for the exchange of creative ideas amongst groups involved in the workshop. Deliberations included the challenges that the Ministry currently faces in the field of creativity and innovation and appropriate solutions were discussed.
Lieutenant Elham Mohammad Al Muaini, the Innovation Branch Manager at the Complaints and Suggestions Department, highlighted the four main tracks of the national strategy for government innovation, namely: creating a stimulating environment for innovation, developing government innovation, pushing the private sector towards more innovation, and qualifying individuals who are highly proficient innovators.
Lieutenant Al Muaini also reviewed the topics of the fourth generation of government excellence system, focusing mainly on the notion of innovation. He highlighted that the axis of innovation mainly includes two main criteria that involve forward thinking and innovation management.
Participants conducted hands-on exercises to draw correlations between the tracks of the national strategy of the government and the strategic objectives pertaining to the seventh objective of the MoI strategy. The attendees additionally participated in activities related to the tracks and topics, which included: environmental analyses, identification of strategic issues, and proposals for creative and innovative initiatives. Towards the end of the workshop, the floor was opened for answering the questions and queries of the participants.
The workshop was attended by heads of the Strategy and Performance Development departments, managers and coordinators of the Complaints and Suggestions branches at the police headquarters country wide, and members of the Creativity and Innovation Committee at the Ministry of Interior.
