On the GCC States level

The UAE Ministry of Interior, represented by the Security Support Department, at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, won the Wins ‘Best Government Practice in Community e-Participation’ Award within the fourth GCC e-Government Award hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, presented the award to Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, Director of the E- Auditing Department, and Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Director of the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Director of Security Media Department, emphasized that the award was obtained thanks to the keenness and attention dedicated by the Security Media Department to enhance interaction and encourage positive communication with the public, using the different social media tools. This would enhance communication between the Ministry of Interior and society, and reinforce community members’ trust and satisfaction with the qualitative efforts, initiatives and services. He then noted that winning the award doubles our responsibility towards the community and prompts us to further develop the Ministry of Interior’s e-services.
“The Ministry of Interior has availed of the social media platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Google Plus as a fast communication channel with the public, in order to spread news, awareness and warnings about rumors that are shared from unreliable sources, as well as to enhance communication with community members and provide the best e-services according to the highest international standards,” said Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah. He also noted that using social media to communicate with the public is a persistent need for the Ministry of Interior, because these channels have become an integral and essential part of our professional and personal daily life.
First Lieutenant Fatima Al Shehhi, Director of the Social Media Center at the Security Media Department, noted that social media have helped to increase social awareness through the different messages and material such as videos, pictures, and tweets that use innovative and modern tools to increase interaction with community members, and to cater to the needs of the new generation via the MoI’s social media channels.
GCC e-Government Award
The GCC e-Government Award is presented to government ministries, agencies and authorities from the GCC countries who follow the international best practices and excel in using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools to provide services and information and to conduct online transactions, all of which are in line with the standards set that are aligned with the GCC vision, which seeks to promote an knowledge-based economy and society.
Held every two years, the GCC e-Government Award is organized in conjunction with the GCC e-Government Conference and Exhibition, to instill the culture of excellence in governmental institutions; to encourage both institutions and individuals to achieve excellence in performance and attain international best practices; and to create a culture of constructive competition among GCC States in the field of e-Government. It also aims to boost the position of GCC States in the field of e-Government, and to improve their rankings in international reports within these areas.
The award includes eight categories, notably the ‘Best Government Practice in Community e-Participation’ Award; which is granted to government agencies which effectively implement and utilize social media networks or any national suggestions and complaints system, that ensure continuous communication with the public in order to improve the level of services and decision-making.
