The technical panel in charge of routinely examining fingerprints and criminal information with the GCC Police Force of the GCC countries, recently held its seventh meeting in implementation of the directives of Their Highnesses and Their Excellencies the GCC Ministers of Interior (MoI). The GCC country delegations and a delegation representing the GCC General Secretariat took part in the meeting.
The meeting, which was held at the Rotana Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi, was inaugurated by Colonel Rashid Saeed Al Qaishi, from the General Directorate of Federal Criminal Police at the MoI and Head of the UAE delegation, who welcomed the other participating heads and members to the UAE. He expressed his hope to them that the meeting would contribute effectively to strengthening security cooperation and coordination between GCC States, for the benefit of the people in the region.
Moreover, he confirmed that this meeting complements security cooperation between GCC member states and supports and promotes security cooperation between the GCC countries, thereby achieving security and stability in the region. He pointed out that it comes as part of a renewed march of security meetings that take into account the serious circumstances and challenges that target stability in the Gulf and seek to undermine the national security of the GCC countries. He highlighted that this requires the adoption of a clear security strategy to deal with all of the developments and changes taking place in the region.
He also extended his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the GCC General Secretariat for the efforts they have exerted to enrich such meetings within the framework of joint security action.
For their part, the heads of the participating GCC delegations expressed thanks and gratitude to the UAE for their excellent organization and warm hospitality. They also confirmed that such meetings are intended to enhance cooperation between the GCC countries in the area of combating crimes, and also to exchange experience and criminal intelligence between them, to achieve security and stability for their respective countries and citizens.
The meeting addressed a number of topics listed on the agenda, including a review of the quality of data and information to be exchanged through the database system of the GCC Police Force, in order to develop consolidated data-sets at the GCC level, in addition to building a database system for the GCC Police Force.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Mubarak Saeed Al Khaili, Director of the GCC Police Force affiliated to the GCC General Secretariat, said: “The aim of the meeting is to develop a comprehensive vision for the GCC Police Force’s database system, in terms of its mechanism of action and the quality of data used to comprehensively facilitate the work of the police force and carry out its various tasks and duties, such as providing a database system link between the GCC countries and actioning its role in achieving the ambitions of the GCC leaders. This is part of their firm belief in the concept of collective security for the GCC countries.”
He continued: “The GCC Police Force is a regional force that operates like other international organizations such as ‘INTERPOL and EUROPOL’. It has been established in order to develop the basics of information databases and lists, in collaboration with a number of specialists in the field of fingerprints, and provides a link between the police force services in the GCC countries,” he added.
Furthermore, the heads of the participating GCC delegations noted that the automatic exchange of fingerprints and security information within the GCC Police Force contributes to creating a paradigm shift in the speed of fingerprint and information exchange; which would lead to the reduction of crimes and the GCC countries developing preventive measures.
They also confirmed that the tasks and responsibilities of the security forces in maintaining the security of both individuals and society, requires us to raise our capabilities to keep pace with the large and rapid technological developments taking place in our modern world, and monitor their implications to be able to achieve the aims of both the present and the future.
