ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, February 18th 2016 [ME NewsWire]
In joint collaboration with the Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of the Musandam Governorate Police in the Sultanate of Oman, the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has successfully managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle narcotic substances in Khasab city. Two people were recently found in possession of 10 kg of hashish, 19800 narcotic pills, 54.5 grams of heroin, and 80 grams of crystal narcotic.
Colonel Saeed Abdullah Tawir Al Suwaidi, Director General, Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior, noted that based on information received by the Directorate General, the operation was carried out to arrest the smugglers and foil the smuggling attempt. He confirmed that protecting the UAE and its citizens from the scourge of narcotics and reducing crime couldn’t be achieved without promoting the cohesion and cooperation between all concerned authorities, security institutions in the country, and brotherly neighbor countries.
Moreover, after successfully foiling this bid, a delegation from the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at the MoI, headed by Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Deputy Director General, visited the Musandam Governorate Police in the Sultanate of Oman and was greeted by Brigadier Yasser Al Maamari, Commander-in-Chief of the police in the region.
During the visit, they discussed a number of topics of mutual interest and mechanisms to enhance strategic partnership. They also exchanged expertise and knowledge on the topic of combating drugs between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman.
Colonel Al Owais praised the existing cooperation and coordination with the Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in the Sultanate of Oman in general, and in the Musandam Governorate in particular. This collaboration has led to foiling several attempts to smuggle drugs between the two countries.
