NTT Communications Selected by Liquid Telecom to Provide IP Transit Services in Africa

Co-operation announced at the Capacity Africa event hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

LONDON & EBENE, Mauritius - Thursday, October 16th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE:NTT), announced today that it has been selected by Liquid Telecom to supply IP Transit services to support the increasing demand for bandwidth in the African Market.

Simon Waller, Head of Global IP Network Sales in EMEA for NTT Com, said, “We are delighted to have been selected by Liquid Telecom for the provision of IP Transit. Liquid Telecom provides vital Internet access to ISPs and content providers throughout the African continent and therefore have extremely high expectations for service quality. We look forward to exceeding these expectations.”

According to new data from TeleGeography’s Global Bandwidth Forecast Service, Africa is expected to lead the world in international bandwidth demand growth in the coming years. Africa’s international bandwidth demand is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 51% between 2012 and 2019. At this rate, African demand would outpace that of both Latin America and the Middle East, which are each projected to rise 37% annually. It is this projected growth in traffic that makes this partnership so exciting for both parties.

Andrew Alston, Head of IP Strategy at Liquid Telecom, said, "Demand for IP capacity on our pan-African fibre network continues to grow above and beyond global forecasts for Africa. NTT Com is a reliable supplier which will provide us with high-quality IP Transit to and from the Global Internet across all continents. Liquid Telecom shares NTT Com’s IPv6 pioneering vision, with IPv6 rolled out fully across our entire African Backbone.”
