GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2014
COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2014
(BUSINESS WIRE) GITEX 2014 opened to great fanfare on 12 October for a five-day run ending on 16 Oct. The COMPUTEX d&i awards, hosted by COMPUTEX organizer Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and iF, made another appearance at GITEX this year. Ultra-thin high-efficiency handheld devices, WiFi-enabled wireless products, video gaming peripherals and wearable products were featured in its 74-piece winners showcase. Key products included a smart watch from Qualcomm, the Two-in-One 19-inch Monitor jointly developed by Philips and TPV, the HTC Dot View multi-color smartphone case, and the X300A Wireless sound system from GP Acoustics.
On Day 2 of the event (13 Oct), TAITRA also held the Taiwan Products Launch & International Press Conference in order to further promote Taiwan’s ICT industry, COMPUTEX as well as Taiwan’s leading manufacturers. The press conference was chaired by Huei-ling Lee, director of TAITRA’s Strategic Marketing Department. Also in attendance was Chao-yuan Ma, head of Taiwan’s Commercial Office in Dubai. The event brought together five award-winning Taiwanese manufacturers -- BXB, DrayTek, TYSSO, UNITECH and Zysel -- which took the opportunity to launch their latest products in the perfect showcase of Taiwan’s exceptional capabilities in ICT R&D, design, manufacturing and brand development.
At the press conference, BXB’s strong background in the meeting and convention industry was clear as it introduced its hardware offerings and software solutions targeted at providers of meeting services. DrayTek also showed off its integrated commercial routers as part of its solution for a smart wireless computing environment. TYSSO, well-known in Taiwan for its POS offerings, demonstrated its latest POS systems, hardware and thermal-sensitive paper products. At the same time, UNITECH exhibited its range of commercial barcode scanning systems as well as a new barcode scanning product for the Android mobile operating system that has been recognized by the 2014 COMPUTEX d&i awards . A host of new and significant product offerings from Zyxel were also seen at the event, including wireless networking equipment, LAN controllers and a Wi-Fi VoIP Integrated Access Device. Product demonstrations were also conducted at the press conference, where members of the media could try out products, and interact with and interview the attending manufacturers.
The GITEX event has long been regarded as one of the best platforms for the Middle East and Africa markets. This year the event has attracted international players such as Samsung, Huawei, ZTE, Microsoft, and Google who brought with them IT products and service solutions designed specifically for the Middle East market in areas such as cloud infrastructure, Smart City technologies, and mobile applications. The Saudi Telecom Company, or STC, also signed a cooperation agreement with Ericsson at the event, thereby bringing the latter’s high-speed mobile broadband technologies into the Middle East for the first time.
GITEX 2014 saw participation from more than 50 exhibitors from Taiwan, including CMC, Edimax, Ritex and UNITECH, a move that has put them in touch with Middle Eastern and African distributors keen to carry Taiwanese products given the excellent reputation such products already have with the local population .
