Theft Victim Went Shopping and Left 100,000 Dhs in Vehicle

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, April 12th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Al Ain Police apprehended five Arab nationals in Al Ain for attempting to steal 100,000 Dhs from a bank customer who had left his money in his vehicle before going into a shop.

Colonel Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Deputy Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate, said that the Directorate received a report from an individual stating that he had been robbed by unidentified thieves after leaving the bank.

The preliminary investigations indicated that the robbery was conducted by breaking the vehicle’s window. The Directorate immediately formed a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in order to identify the thieves and to arrest them based on the available information.

“Our investigations led to the identification of the suspects and to their subsequent arrest,” he said. “The thieves admitted to monitoring and following the victim after he had left the bank with the intention to steal the money.” Colonel Al Rashidi continued describing how the thieves waited for the victim to park his vehicle in front of a store where they broke into his vehicle by smashing the windows and stole the money. When the victim returned, he was shocked to see what had happened to his vehicle and that his money had been stolen.

In light of the circumstances, Colonel Al Rashidi called upon the public to be cautious and not to be negligent by leaving their money and valuables in vulnerable places that would lead immoral persons to commit crimes. In a bid to help individuals keep themselves protected against theft, he advised the public to “keep your money out of the sight of curious eyes, transport your money carefully, and always secure your valuables in a safe place.”

“Regrettably, some members of our community do not comply with the messages of awareness and guidance that are provided by the authorities in regards to general security. These messages are important and should not be overlooked, because these guidelines are to not only protect individuals, but also their valuables and properties,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has previously launched two awareness campaigns through the media in regards to the security of bank customers. Both campaigns warned bank customers of unexpected thefts, highlighted the preventive measures that should be taken, and provided instructions on the safe methods of withdrawing and transporting money to fortify it against thefts.
