During the Meeting of the Work Teams Assigned to Establish the Sixth Security Awareness Plan

The work team assigned to assess and establish the annual Arab Media Plan, operating under the umbrella of the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries for Internal Affairs, stressed the importance of leveraging the experiences and expertise garnered by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior in the UAE. This recommendation was issued in view of the positive outcomes and impacts of the Emirati Security Media Department’s performance, its efficiency and modern methods; especially in the fields of digital media and social networking, as well as its high-level transparency and professionalism.
Participants at the meeting hailed the leading role played by the Emirati police and its ongoing quest to gain the confidence of the public and maintain the integrity, accuracy and speed of response of its media. The meeting, which was organized by the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries of Internal Affairs in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, was attended by representatives of security media, public relations, and orientations departments at the Arab Ministries of Interior.
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director of Tactical Affairs and Security Media Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, Head of the Security Media delegation, was elected to chair the meeting. During the meeting, the previous fifth Arab Media Plans for Security Awareness and Crime Prevention was discussed; and the draft Sixth Arab Media Plan was approved, with participation from Naif University for Security Sciences and the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries of Internal Affairs.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Khajah called for activating e–linking between security media departments in the member countries, to achieve further interaction and exchange of knowledge and expertise. He also stressed the need to intensify consultative meetings in order to promote interpersonal relations and attain the best practices in addressing security issues, awareness drives, and challenges facing the peoples and governments of the region.
He reiterated the keenness of the UAE’s leadership to provide several support channels and preventive methods to protect society and build its defenses it against negative and destructive ideals, which aim at undermining the safety and stability of the communities and doing damage to their national gains and achievements.
Media Expert Abdullah Shahin at Abu Dhabi Police, called upon preachers, clerics, muftis and dawah sheikhs to play a bigger role and assume their social responsibility to spread cultural enlightenment and awareness about the dangers of crime and extremism, eradicate its ideological sources and preach tolerance among people. He criticized some religious satellite channels, which are tarnishing the cultural aspect of Islam, and waste their time and energy on highlighting supernatural and superficial topics such as “magic, sorcery and Djinn” instead of discussing the current crucial topics that compromise the safety of the people and the stability of life in real world.
The sixth Media Plan for 2015, established by the Secretariat General of the Council and approved by the members, included a number of goals, most notably, promoting the spirit of citizenship, loyalty and patriotism and boosting the spirit of partnership and social cohesion. This can be achieved by establishing the modern concepts of security as a social responsibility, and instilling the tolerant religious ideals and virtuous humanitarian principles. The sixth Media Plan will also encourage righteous social behaviors that call for rejecting violence and extremism, uncover suspicious backgrounds and authorities as well as ideological, political and social misleading and destructive da’was that make use of modern scientific methods; in addition to working on improving the stereotypical perception of the role played by security bodies and their constructive efforts and sacrifices in order to fulfill their duties and sacred mission.
The plan also stressed the importance of cooperation with media outlets and the need to encourage them to pursue and intensify their efforts in educating and elevating the sense of security among the public, in the framework of professional standards and media honor codes. It also stresses the importance of cooperation with various educational and religious institutes, houses of worship, development and socialization institutions, youth care, labor unions and many others.
The Emirati delegation included Major Saeed Suhail Al Mazroui, Chief of the Public Relations Section at the Western Region Police Directorate; Captain Ahmed Naseeb Al Mansouri, Chief of the Strategic Planning Section; and Abdullah Shahin, Media Expert and Press Branch Manager at Security Media Department.
The meeting was also attended by Major General Falah Mashari, Asst. Secretary General at the General Secretariat of the Council; Mohamed Nabil Obaid, Consultant of the Secretary General; Dr. Mohamed Baba Salamah, Director of the Secretary General’s office; Dr. Mohamed Al Omairy, from Naif University; Colonel Jamal Hanoon, Director of Public Relations at the Egyptian Police.
