Dubai, United Arab Emirates. - Wednesday, January 28th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra, comprised of the UAE’s leading young musicians, today announced the winners of its GCC competition, organised in conjunction with the 11th Emirates International Peace Music Festival at a press conference held at Dubai Media City.
The grand prix winner, 15-year old Hana Boukhris from Tunisia, will play as a soloist with the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Emirates International Peace Music Festival (for young Virtuosos), held between 15th-19th March 2015. The event is held in partnership with Dubai Media City and the Abu Dhabi Festival.
At an awards ceremony hosted by Dubai Media City, a long standing partner of the competition, many of the 45 competitors drawn from across the UAE, picked up prizes across a number of categories. 12-year old UAE resident Eljin Yoo was named the winner of the violin category, Canadian Kuwait-resident Jason Chen named first prize winner in the piano category, and the second prize for cello, second and third prizes for violin and first honourary award for violin were all awarded to young Emirati talent. At the Festival, the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra will be joined by Youth orchestras from the Czech Republic, Poland and Russia.
Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of TECOM Investments’ Media Cluster, which comprises Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City and International Media Production Zone commented:
"At Media City we are proud of long association with the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra and the promotion of music and culture across the UAE. Music is a core part of the creative process, and our focus is on providing the freedom to create. We are proud to be able to champion the next generation of young musicians, and hope that they will take their passion for creativity into adulthood and perhaps even a career in the creative industries.
“Platforms such as this provide a great deal of inspiration for the competitors’ peers, and help to create an environment that fosters excellence and discipline – two core attributes for their future lives.”
Riad Kudsi, Founder of The Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra and Director of the Emirates International Peace Music Festival, said:
"Celebrating its 21st year, The Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra is committed to enriching the UAE’s cultural and musical outlook, providing education and training to local young musicians. The Emirates International Peace Music Festival will provide the winner of our GCC competition with a fantastic opportunity to open the festival and showcase their talent. We thank Dubai Media City for their ongoing support in helping us to develop the UAE’s musical landscape and nurture upcoming talent, and we look continue to welcome all youngsters, especially locals, to join our orchestra."
