Welcomed by Major General Al Raisi
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, January 1st 2015 [ME NewsWire]
Students of the ‘Friends of the Police’ program reviewed the leading policing experiences of Abu Dhabi Police, and were acquainted with the different tasks and duties carried out by the Central Operations Room at the Operations Department, and Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
During their visit to the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), students were welcomed by Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations who encouraged them to avail of the program’s various educational, sporting and heritage-related activities organized by the Abu Dhabi Police, which help to inculcate patriotism in the youth.
These activities are part of the ‘Friends of the Police’ Program, recently launched by the Cultural and Social Activities Section at the Clubs Department for the children of officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilians working at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. A total of 120 students took part in the program, which is taking place during the first semester vacation of the year 2014-2015.
The Clubs Department is keen to organize periodic purposeful activities for the sons of officers to help fill their leisure times, develop their skills and talents, acquaint them with the concept of responsibility, encourage them to avoid bad and objectionable behavior, and instill entrepreneurial values and spirit in them.
The ‘Friends of the Police’ delegation kick started their visit by reviewing the tasks of the operations room at the Operations Department at the Directorate General of Central Operations, where they were introduced to the services it provides to the public. This was followed by a visit to the Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Directorate General of Police Operations, where they were given a number of awareness tips about the dangers of drug abuse.
The visit also included Al Samaliya traditional village to invest their potential in useful and beneficial activities and to enhance their skills, as well as the amusement park located in Al Meena in Abu Dhabi. A similar program was also launched for the ‘Friends of the Police’ in Al Ain, where students were introduced to sporting, touristic and traditional attraction sites; including Al Ain Amateur Club, the Souk Al Qattara historic and traditional Market, and Al Ain Wildlife Park.
For his part, Colonel Hareb Khamis Al Khaili, Deputy Head of the Clubs Department and Head of the Organizing Committee, said that the ‘Friends of the Police’ program aims at boosting the education of police officers’ children, developing their skills and raising their security and cultural awareness.
In conclusion, Colonel Al Khaili noted that the number of students participating in the program has increased considerably year after year, which calls for developing the program accordingly to accommodate all of the children of officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilians working at Abu Dhabi Police wishing to participate. This will also require a diversity of activities that are aligned with the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy to promote public confidence and strengthen its relation with community members.
