The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) paid tribute to the Ministry of Interior, in recognition of its honorable participation on the behalf of the UAE at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The summit was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in May with the participation of 170 countries.
Lieutenant Colonel Salem Abdullah Saqr, from the General Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunications Services, at the Ministry of Interior, received a commemorative shield, in a ceremony held at the Dubai World Trade Center. The shield was presented by Engineer Majid Sultan Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director General.
The Ministry of Interior had engaged with two papers during the sessions dedicated to the UAE. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Ahmed presented the first paper titled ‘The cyber and smart transformation initiative at the Ministry of Interior’ in the ICT applications and E-government category. The paper provided a comprehensive overview of the Federal and Local Governmental Authorities’ approach to achieve smart e-government transformation.
Major Ibrahim Humaid Al Yamahi presented the second paper titled ‘Promoting the culture of information security at the Ministry of Interior’, which tackled the subject of building of trust and security in the use of ICTs.
The participation of the UAE at the international convention has garnered the admiration of many countries, which requested copies of the papers presented by the Ministry of Interior’s delegation as a reference. Furthermore, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) praised the instrumental role of the UAE Ministry of Interior, as well as the measures undertaken to promote its diverse e-services, and to interact with customers to cater to their needs and achieve their satisfaction with the governmental work system.
