Security Support Develops Skills with Extensive Security Training with Italian Carabinieri

Members of Security Support Directorate General at Abu Dhabi Police attended an extensive training course at the International Police Training Center. The course includes joint training with Italian Carabinieri units, within the framework of the international expertise exchange program. A delegation from the Security Support Directorate General is currently visiting Italy at the invitation of the Italian Carabinieri in the City of Vicenza.

Brigadier General Paolo Nardone, Director of the Center, praised the efficiency of the team members and their advanced skills. He said: “The Emirati Police enjoy a prestigious international reputation, for the landmark achievements in police work.” He also pointed out that what he has witnessed reflects the prestigious stature attained by the Emirati Police, on par with the best international levels.

Brigadier General Paolo Nardone stressed on the commitment to further boost cooperation between police authorities at both countries; and the need to avail mutual expertise to achieve the public good, in terms of training plans and skills development.

For his part, Colonel Giuseppe Korse, Head of the Carabinieri's Special Intervention Group, expressed his admiration for the capabilities and skills of Security Support members, and their high professionalism in carrying out difficult and dangerous tasks. He also expressed admiration for their physical fitness and mental capacity, which qualify them to be at the forefront of the most competent police forces in the world. Additionally, he praised the readiness of the Security Support members and their commitment to achieve excellence in their work.

For his part, Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Head of Security Support Department at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that the expertise and knowledge exchange program with scientific institutions contributes to enhancing competencies and capabilities. “Interacting with peers helps Security Support members to reinforce cooperation in all areas of training and qualification. This aims to review the latest developments in training; and to maintain the Security Support staff members in high readiness to combat crime and preserve safety and security in the UAE.”

Lieutenant Bader Al Riyami, Head of the Security Support delegation to Italy, and Training and Services Branch Manager explained that the extensive course program is being held at one of the key international training institutes affiliated with the Italian Carabinieri. “The course included intensive practical training, theoretical and legal lectures, and security training scenarios that cover intervention, VIP protection, criminal pursuits, and training on advanced equipment devices, and weapons,” he said.

 The course acquainted participants with the work mechanisms adopted by specialized police units in Italy and their methods to combat crime. They also examined the different types of firearms and weapons, and conducted life shooting training; in addition to intensive training on special intervention, using ropes and ladders.

It is worth mentioning that the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units (COESPU), is an the International Training Center specialized in police sciences; and a comprehensive training facility. The Center’s programs cover practical training and specialized theoretical lectures. The Center’s compound include teaching rooms with hi-tech equipment, multimedia and projection rooms equipped with modern devices, shooting ranges, and external training areas that simulate various residential and geographic environments.

The Center is managed by police experts and professionals under the umbrella of the Carabinieri, with prestigious international renown. The Italian Carabinieri were given a mandate to establish a Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units to spearhead the development of training and doctrinal standards for police units and civilian institutions to conduct international peacekeeping missions and other essential policing tasks.

It is also worth mentioning that the Security Support delegation has been making visits to various developed countries, in line with the international expertise exchange program. The visits aim to take part in the daily tasks and training carried out by the police authorities in those countries, and get acquainted with modern police tactics and innovative ideas in security and police work. The Security Support members have countered crime in western capitals, whereas male and female staff members have shown high levels of discipline and competency, which earned them international praise.
