Decorates Experts with Medals of Security Collaboration and Search and Rescue

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, inaugurated today Sunday, the exhibition collocated with the 2015 Global Meeting on Search and Rescue. The Meeting is organized by the Ministry of Interior, represented by Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate, in cooperation with the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
His Highness toured the exhibition, where he reviewed the latest search and rescue devices and equipment showcased by the participating governmental institutions and private companies. His Highness took a commemorative photo with leaders of global search and rescue teams participating in the meeting.
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, also decorated Mr. Tony Frisch, Global Chairman of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) with the Medal of Security Collaboration. His Highness also decorated seven experts and researchers with the Medal of Search and Rescue, in recognition of their efforts and services in the field.
The opening ceremony was attended by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services; Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief at the Ministry of Interior; Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Abdullah Ahmed Al Ansari, Director General of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team; Kyung-Wha Kang, UN’s Assistant Secretary-General; heads of the GCC, Arab, and Foreign countries participating in the meeting; and number of senior officers and director generals at the Ministry of Interior.
Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, had launched this morning the 2015 Global Meeting on Search and Rescue, which is held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), under the theme “Ready for the Future”.
Towards the beginning of the ceremony, the Undersecretary and the attendees watched a documentary film showcasing the progress of the UAE in the various security fields, thanks to the support and attention of the higher leadership and the constant follow-up of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, which led to security and stability across the UAE.
Lt. General Saif Al Sha’far gave a speech, by which he welcomed the guest experts and specialists in the field of search and rescue, who will share their expertise, experiences, and their best practices to unify the efforts and promote the mutual collaboration between search and rescue teams.
“Holding this meeting for the first time in the UAE reflects the vision and aspirations of our higher leadership, to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world in terms of security and safety. It also demonstrates our keenness to be efficient partners; and to cooperate, coordinate and communicate with countries around the world in the field of search and rescue. The UAE is keen to ensure peaceful and safe lives for everyone, based on the teachings of Islam and the Sharia,” he said. He also stressed the keenness of the UAE to host such meetings, and to participate according to proven scientific fundamentals, to promote further confidence in its ability to organize such mega global events, and to prove to be up to the challenge of being an important and essential member, which can actively take part in the decision making process, and set forth strategic goals to save lives, which is the most noble goal in life.
Adding further, Lt. General Al Sha’far said: “The overwhelming changes taking place around the world require further coordination among all international search and rescue teams in order to provide relief efforts and help victims of disasters and crisis. It also calls for developing the work methodology in this field, with the growing number of different disasters and crisis that require quick response in order to save lives. Search and rescue missions in crisis and disasters, and response mechanisms are not an individual responsibility, but rather a shared responsibility that require concerted efforts and capabilities in all areas of humanitarian relief, in light of the current changes taking place in the world today,”
Upon the conclusion of his speech, Lt. General Al Sha’far expressed his hope for the meeting to achieve the coveted results and recommendations, which would help all concerned parties to respond quickly to crisis and disasters, and to develop the work system in search and rescue efforts. “This would promote further cooperation among all countries taking part in the meeting to realize enhanced security, safety and stability for humans,” he noted. He also thanked the organizers of the meeting and all participants, wishing them the best of luck and success.
Mrs. Kyung- Wha Kang UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights delivered a speech on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, by which she expressed gratitude and appreciation for the UAE for hosting the meeting. She said: “The world is experiencing many crises, which caused an unprecedented increase in the number of people that require humanitarian assistance in the past decade. This calls for further coordination and cooperation among search and rescue teams worldwide in order to face these challenges; and to highlight the importance of developing efficiency of search and rescue workers.”
Toni Frisch, Global Chairman of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), also delivered a speech, by which he thanked the UAE Ministry of Interior for their warm welcome and hospitality. He also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to take part in this international meeting. He asserted that the INSARAG has made significant achievements, which contributed to saving more lives in disasters.
After that, the meeting sessions started with the first workshop presided by Rudolf Müller, Deputy Director of Emergency Services at the United Nations. During the session, a number of papers were discussed and were presented by search and rescue specialists and professionals from the participating countries.
