24 Thousand Benefit from the Awareness Lectures in Abu Dhabi in 9 Months

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, October 16th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

An estimated 24,214 thousand people have benefited from 251 awareness lectures organized by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, in the past nine months in Abu Dhabi. The lectures targeted drivers in the private and public sectors, as well as truck, heavy vehicles, and taxi drivers, in line with the Abu Dhabi Police’s traffic safety strategy that aims to make roads safer.

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police stated that the traffic awareness lectures focused on reducing mistakes made by drivers, reducing traffic accidents and the resulting casualties and serious injuries, as well as spreading traffic culture.

He pointed that the lectures discussed the common causes of accidents and violations made by motorists, and aimed to encourage adherence to traffic laws, as a part of the efforts exerted within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Safety strategy to prevent the causes of road accidents.

Colonel Al Ameri explained that the lectures included awareness videos and graphics, in addition to distribution of traffic brochures, to raise the awareness of the motorists and guide them.

Colonel Al Ameri urged motorists to adhere to the designated legal speeds in order to avoid traffic accidents leading to casualties and serious injuries. He also advised motorists to stay up-to- date with weather forecasts to learn about weather changes, especially with the foggy conditions that are set to continue in the coming period, and cause low visibility. He also stressed the need to double the safe distance between vehicles to avoid collisions; avoid overtaking other vehicles, and the need to park vehicles on the right shoulder of the road then use the hazard lights to ensure their safety.

Colonel Al Ameri warned company owners against operating trucks and heavy vehicles on the road during foggy conditions, to avoid endangering their lives and being fined. He pointed that the directorate is taking the necessary measures that guarantee traffic safety in foggy conditions, when visibility drops to 50 meters or less, by stopping traffic flow completely, especially buses, trucks and any transport mean that may undermine road safety. He also stressed the need to exercise caution during foggy conditions.
