The third Seven-a-Side Football Championship 2014, as part of the Capital Police Director’s Cup, commenced Monday evening at the Zayed Sports City Stadium. The championship, which is organized by the Directorate General of Police Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), will continue for 14 days and hosts seven competing teams.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Colonel Rashid Mubarak Al Mesmari, Deputy Director of the Capital Police Directorate, praised the level of organization and readiness for the championship. He also commended the efforts of the administrative and supervisory entities as well as the sponsors; highlighting the importance of creating fair competition among all of the participants in the single round-robin tournament that is officiated by certified referees from UAE Football Association (UAEFA).
The beginning of the football tournament was marked with two games ending in ties. The first match was between the Al Shabia Police Station team and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate team, with a final score of 1-1. The second match was between the Al Madina Police Station team and the Investigations Affairs Section at the Capital Police Directorate team, with a final scored of 3-3.
A match between the Capital Police’s Director General’s team and the Secure Company’s team followed the first matches, with a win for the Capital Police Director General’s team and a score of 4-0. The tournament also included a match between the Al Khalidiya Police Station team and the Directorate General of Police Operations team, with a 3-1 win for the Directorate General of Police Operations team.
It is noteworthy that the championship comes as part of the strategic objectives of the Directorate General of Police Operations and embodies its keenness to diversify the competitions; to enhance communication, networking, and cooperation between the personnel; and to encourage fair competition among them.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of officers; chiefs of sections; administrative, supervisory, and assistant committees; non-commissioned officers and police members; and supporters.
It is worth mentioning that the third Seven-a-side Football Championship 2014, as part of the Capital Police Director’s Cup, will be organized in collaboration with the Government Departments Sports Association. Sponsors include Corporate Excellence Masters International (CMI) as a strategic sponsor; and Al Wifaq Finance Company, Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society, Eshraq Properties, and MENA Corp. as Gold sponsors.
